There are methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for a flexible generation framework. The generation framework encapsulates a variety of different code generation technologies within a common interface. This allows various types of generator cores operating in various development environments to be integrated into the framework, and enables the generation of code using various generating technologies.

Flexible code generation

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to a system and method for a Web service definition. A development environment may receive input selecting a Web service interface. The development environment may also receive input to specify one or more system independent features of the selected interface. In an embodiment, the development environment may create a Web service definition descriptor file that includes the received input specifying the one or more system independent features.

A development environment may receive input selecting a Web service implementation. The development environment may also receive input to define a virtual interface of the selected Web service implementation. The development environment may create a virtual interface descriptor file that includes the received input defining the virtual interface. The development environment may generate a Web service description based, at least in part, on the virtual interface descriptor file.

System and method for a Web service virtual interface

A computing device may define a virtual interface to provide an interface for a Web service implementation. The computing device may also create a Web service definition to specify a behavior of the defined virtual interface. The computing device may then provide a Web service archive that includes the virtual interface and the Web service definition.

Web service archive

A pluggable model framework in a model-view-controller (MVC) environment. The pluggable model framework contains elements that relate to one or more of a development tool for an application, a metamodel that defines development objects associated with the application, a generator for generating code based on the metamodel, and an application run-time. The pluggable model framework includes an extension point that corresponds to at least one of the elements. A plug-in interfaces to the pluggable model framework by way of the extension point. The plug-in corresponds to a model used by the application.

There are methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for using incremental generation to develop an application. The incremental generation includes identifying a first main development object. Main development objects related to the first main development objects by an aggregation relationship are identified. Main development objects related to the first main development object by an association relationship are also identified. A determination is made as to whether any identified main development objects have changed. If any identified main development objects have changed, the first main development object is re-generated.
