In accordance with the present embodiment, a method for making an optical ceramic comprises depositing a plurality of thin layers of powder. The powder comprises a first optical material powder having a first dopant level, and a second optical material powder. The first and second optical material powders are deposited for each layer based on the first dopant level and according to data associated with a three-dimensional (3D) compositional profile design of an optical ceramic. The method further comprises binding the first and second optical material powders of each thin layer to each other and each thin layer with an adjacent layer such that a green state optical ceramic is produced based on the 3D compositional profile design. The method further comprises densifying the green state optical ceramic to obtain the optical ceramic.

Method of fabricating optical ceramics containing compositionally tailored regions in three dimension

The present disclosure relates, in some embodiments, to pre-concentrator compositions, devices, systems, and/or methods for concentrating small quantities of chemical or biological compounds, e.g., CBRNE compounds. A pre-concentrator of the disclosure may be operable to releasably bind and concentrate CBRNE compounds. In some embodiments, a pre-concentrator may comprise a 3-D structure of electrospun nanofibers, that comprise at least one polymer, one conducting agent and at least one chemical-specific functional group and/or biological-specific moiety configured to selectively bind to a CBRNE compound. Bound compounds may be released and detected. Pre-concentrator devices and systems operable to bind, concentrate, and/or detect one or more CBRNE compounds are described. Devices and systems of the disclosure may be configured to concentrate and detect multiple compounds. Methods for synthesizing pre-concentrators as well as methods for concentrating, detecting and identifying compounds of interest are also set forth.

Electrospun fiber pre-concentrator

A multilayer metamaterial isolator and method of fabricating the same. A first layer or surface of a multilayer dielectric substrate includes a first leg of a first resonator loop. A second layer or surface of the multilayer dielectric substrate includes a second leg of the first resonator loop. A third leg of the first resonator loop extends through the multilayer dielectric substrate interconnecting the first and second legs of the first resonator loop.
