Examples described herein provide a computer-implemented method that includes receiving data from an electric motor of a vehicle, the electric motor comprising a stator and a rotor. The method further includes performing a motor health degradation analysis to determine whether a degradation of the electric motor has occurred. The method further includes performing a stator health degradation analysis to determine that a stator degradation has occurred. The method further includes performing a rotor health degradation analysis to determine that a rotor degradation has occurred. The method further includes implementing a corrective action for the vehicle e responsive to determining that the degradation of the electric motor has occurred and at least one of the stator degradation or the rotor degradation has occurred.

Detecting degradation within electric motors

A method of monitoring a propulsion system of a vehicle includes determining a health indicator from a diagnostic signal based on electrical outputs from a resolver connected to an electric motor of the propulsion system, the diagnostic signal related to a resolver offset and/or a resolver wobble, calculating a reference value based on values of the health indicator determined during a first time period, and monitoring the health indicator over a second time period, where the monitoring includes continuously or periodically calculating a trend value of the health indicator over a plurality of cycles. The method also includes comparing each trend value to the reference value and estimating a difference between the trend value and the reference value for each cycle, predicting whether a fault will occur based on the difference, and based on the predicting indicating that a fault will occur, outputting a fault indication.

Prediction of resolver malfunctions

Apparatus and techniques for analyzing a capacitance value in an electric motor inverter are disclosed. A processor is coupled to a DC-AC inverter, which includes a capacitor across its terminals and is powered by a battery. The processor performs resistor switching to enable singular, periodic measurement of the capacitance. The measured value is compared with a nominal or beginning of life (BOL) value. An alert may be sent if the capacitance has degraded beyond a threshold. In other aspects, the DC torque ripple envelop is used to measure capacitance. The outcome is compared with the other tests to assess consistency. An inconsistent outcome may identify potential resistor degradation.

A process for local traffic approximation through analysis of cloud data is provided. The process includes, within a computerized traffic flow estimation controller of a host vehicle, operating programming to monitor a planned navigational route of the host vehicle, identify along the planned navigational route a road section including cross-traffic, monitor cloud data related to a mobile cellular device, analyze the cloud data to identify traffic posing a hazardous condition to the host vehicle within the road section, and generate a vehicle alert to a driver of the host vehicle based upon the identified traffic.

A diagnostic system for diagnosing faults in a power inverter including a power loss estimating module configured to calculate a power loss of one or more components of the power inverter. A junction temperature estimating module is configured to output an estimated junction temperature of the one or more components of the power inverter. A plurality of temperature sensors is configured to sense a plurality of temperatures of a plurality of inverter legs, respectively. A health indicator generating module is configured to generate a plurality of health indicators in response to the estimated junction temperature and the plurality of sensed temperatures of the plurality of inverter legs. A fault identification module is configured to selectively identify one of an inverter fault, a temperature sensor fault, and no fault in response to the plurality of health indicators.

Systems and methods for detecting and isolating faults within a power inverter

A diagnostic system for an inverter module includes a motor control module configured to determine operating characteristics of the inverter module. The operating characteristics include of at least one of a voltage, a current, and a switching frequency associated with operation of the inverter module. A diagnostic module is configured to receive the operating characteristics of the inverter module, estimate at least one junction temperature of a component of the inverter module based on the operating characteristics, calculate a health indicator of the inverter module based on the estimated junction temperature, and selectively output an alert based on the calculated health indicator.

Method for detecting early degradation within the inverter module

A diagnostic system includes: a current command module configured to, based on a motor torque request, a motor speed, a direct current (DC) bus voltage, generate a d-axis current command for an electric motor and a q-axis current command for the electric motor; a voltage command module configured to, based on the d-axis current command and the q-axis current command, generate a d-axis voltage command and a q-axis voltage command; a switching control module configured to control switching of an inverter module based on the d-axis voltage command and the q-axis voltage command, where the inverter module is configured to apply power to stator windings of the electric motor from the DC bus; and a fault module configured to selectively indicate that the stator windings of the electric motor are degraded when the d-axis voltage command is less than a predetermined nominal d-axis voltage of the electric motor.

A control system for an electric motor includes a power input calculating module configured to calculate power input to the electric motor. A power output calculating module is configured to calculate power output by the electric motor. A power loss calculating module is configured to calculate power loss in the electric motor based on the power input and the power output. A weight with which one or more information sources of the vehicle are considered is adjusted for each collision potential scenario such that a highest weight is given to one or more of the one or more information sources that provide most relevant and reliable information about the specified area. Sensor fusion is implemented based on the adjusting the weight of the one or more information sources and performing detection based on the sensor fusion, and an alert is provided or actions are implemented according to the detection.

Sensor fusion based on intersection scene to determine vehicle collision potential

Systems and methods for vehicle-target localization, identification and indication. The system includes a vehicle module operating onboard a vehicle and configured to receive a request for a tether and send the tether responsive thereto, and a target module operating on a target external to the vehicle. The target module can generate target profile data (TPD) comprising location information for the target, such as, a first component that is a function of a detected first WiFi signal having a first signal strength. The request for the tether including the TPD is transmitted to the vehicle module; a tether of secured communications is established between the vehicle module and target module. Real-time TPD is exchanged during the tether and the vehicle module performs the V-T localization as a function of the RT TPD, and commands the vehicle based on V-T localization data.

A system and method for determining the presence of a hidden hazard may include identification of an operational scene for a host vehicle, and identification of an operational situation for the host vehicle. Information from a plurality of proximity sensors is collected and classified. A plurality of hidden hazard presence probabilities corresponding to the information from each of the plurality of proximity sensors, the operational scene, the operational situation, and at least one of a comparative process and a dynamic neural network process are estimated. A fusion process may be performed upon the plurality of hidden hazard presence probabilities to determine the presence of a hidden hazard.

An electric drive system of a vehicle comprises a motor, a position sensor, an inverter, sensors to sense current and voltage supplied to the motor, and a controller to control the motor by controlling the inverter based on data from the position sensor and the sensors and a torque command. The controller estimates a motor torque using a motor model, calculates the motor torque, and generates a first state of health for the electric drive system based on a difference between the estimated and calculated motor torques. The controller generates, in response to the first state of health being less than or equal to a first threshold, a second state of health for at least one of the position sensor, the sensors, and the motor, and determines whether one of the position sensor, the sensors, and the motor is faulty based on the first and second states of health.

Integrated fault isolation and prognosis system for electric drive system

An electric machine assembly having an electric machine and a controller-based method for isolating a particular fault condition in the electric machine. A plurality of current sensors is configured to output respective measured currents in respective phases of the electric machine. A position sensor is configured to output a rotor position of the electric machine. A controller is configured to group the respective measured currents into respective combinations of two. The controller is configured to calculate respective residual factors (R), and a global residual factor (G) based on the respective residual factors (R). Responsive to at least three of the global residual factor (G) and the respective residual factors (R) exceeding respective calibrated error thresholds, the controller is configured to identify a particular fault condition from among a plurality of possible fault conditions and execute a control action with respect to the electric machine.
