An air conditioner may include an outdoor unit having a compressor; at least one indoor unit having an indoor heat exchanger, an indoor expansion valve, and a leak sensor that senses leakage of the refrigerant; a gaseous line; a liquid line; a first shut-off valve disposed adjacent to the at least one indoor unit that opens and closes the gaseous line; a second shut-off valve disposed adjacent to the at least one indoor unit that opens and closes the liquid line; a subcooling pipe branched from the liquid line and connected to an inlet of the compressor; a subcooling expansion valve that expands refrigerant, flowing through the subcooling pipe; and a controller configured to control operation of the compressor and to control opening and closing of the first shut-off valve, the second shut-off valve, the indoor expansion valve, and the subcooling expansion valve.

A multi-air conditioner for heating and cooling may include at least one indoor unit for both cooling and heating including an indoor heat exchanger, an outdoor unit, and a distributor disposed between the outdoor unit and the at least one indoor unit. The outdoor unit may include a compressor, a plurality of outdoor heat exchangers, and a switching unit disposed on a discharge side of the compressor to switch a flow of refrigerant. The plurality of outdoor heat exchangers may include a first heat exchanger, a second heat exchanger disposed under the first heat exchanger, and a third heat exchanger disposed under the second heat exchanger. A first end of the third heat exchanger may be connected to the discharge side of the compressor, and a second end of the third heat exchanger may be connected to the indoor unit.

Multi-air conditioner for heating and cooling

A multi-air conditioner for heating/cooling operation may include: at least one indoor unit which is installed in a room, and includes an indoor heat exchanger; an outdoor unit which is connected to the indoor unit through a refrigerant pipe, and includes an outdoor heat exchanger, a compressor, an outdoor expansion valve, and a four-way valve; at least one leakage blocking valve which is formed on the refrigerant pipe, and blocks a refrigerant flow in the refrigerant pipe when a refrigerant leak occurs from the refrigerant pipe in the room; and a buffer unit which is installed on the refrigerant pipe between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit, and collects refrigerant leaking from the refrigerant pipe. Accordingly, when the refrigerant leaks into the room, it is possible to minimize the amount of the leaking refrigerant by collecting the refrigerant in the buffer tank.

Multi-air conditioner for heating and cooling operations

A multi-type air conditioner is provided including an outdoor unit and a plurality of indoor units connected to the outdoor unit by a liquid pipe and a gas pipe. The plurality of indoor units includes a first indoor unit including first and second heat exchangers and first and second heat exchanger connecting pipes, and a second indoor unit. An indoor heat exchanger connecting pipe connects the first and second indoor units, and a liquid pipe connecting tube connects the first indoor unit and the liquid pipe. Opening amounts of a first indoor expansion valve, and first and second bypass expansion valves provided in the first indoor unit are opened selectively to operate the first heat exchanger as a condenser and the second heat exchanger as an evaporator to continuously drive a dehumidification mode while maintaining a room temperature within a predefined range.

An air conditioner and a method of controlling the same are disclosed. The air conditioner includes a controller configured to determine a target evaporation pressure based on information sensed by an outdoor temperature sensor. The controller determines whether the determined target evaporation pressure is changed, based on a difference between a value sensed by an indoor temperature sensor and a set temperature of an indoor space and a value sensed by an indoor humidity sensor.

An air conditioner includes an outdoor heat exchanger that is divided into a plurality of unit paths. at least two of the plurality of unit paths are connected in series or parallel to one another according to cooling/heating operation, so that it is possible to vary the number or length of paths through which a refrigerant passes. A refrigerant system includes an outdoor unit and a plurality of indoor units. The outdoor unit has a compressor and a plurality of heat exchangers and each indoor unit has a heat exchanger. A detector detects pressures at an inflow side and a discharge side of the compressor, and a controller controls a direction of refrigerant flow for the heat exchangers of the outdoor unit. This may involve changing the refrigerant flow direction for at least one of the heat exchanger of the outdoor unit based on the detected pressures.

Refrigerant system and method for controlling the same

An air conditioner includes a plurality of compressors, an intake passageway, a bypass unit, and an expansion valve. The intake passageway distributes a fluid to each of the compressors. The bypass unit includes a plurality of bypass pipes connected respectively to the compressors and a common bypass pipe to discharge the fluids from the compressors to the intake passageway. The expansion valve is provided to the bypass unit to control a flow of fluid from the common bypass pipe to the intake unit.
