Techniques to increase the capacity of a W-CDMA wireless communications system. In an exemplary embodiment, early termination of one or more transport channels on a W-CDMA wireless communications link is provided. In particular, early decoding is performed on slots as they are received over the air, and techniques are described for signaling acknowledgment messages (ACK's) for one or more transport channels correctly decoded to terminate the transmission of those transport channels. The techniques may be applied to the transmission of voice signals using the adaptive multi-rate (AMR) codec. Further exemplary embodiments describe aspects to reduce the transmission power and rate of power control commands sent over the air, as well as aspects for applying tail-biting convolutional codes in the system.

Increasing capacity in wireless communications

A signal processing device for communication is provided and includes a de-rate matching module, a decoder, a signal-quality generation module, and a first control module. The de-rate matching module performs a de-rate matching operation on the control signal to obtain a de-rate matching signal. The decoder performs a decoding operation on the de-rate matching signal to obtain a decoding signal. The signal-quality generation module generates at least one signal-quality indicator according to the control signal and the de-rate matching signal. The at least one signal-quality indicator includes a similarity indictor which is obtained by the signal-quality generation module performing a similarity calculation operation on the control signal and the de-rate matching signal. The first control module determines and controls whether to stop the decoding operation for the de-rate matching signal of the current control signal according to the at least one signal-quality indicator.

Methods and apparatus of wireless communication at a user equipment comprise compressing an uplink data packet. The methods and apparatus further comprise transmitting the uplink data packet on an uplink dedicated transport channel (DCH) to a network entity a plurality of times within a time duration allowed for transmission of the uncompressed uplink data packet. Moreover, the methods and apparatus comprise receiving a downlink acknowledgement message from the network entity corresponding to the uplink data packet. Additionally, the methods and apparatus comprise terminating transmission of the uplink DCH by transmitting bits of zero power for a remainder of the time duration on the DCH based on receiving the downlink acknowledgement message.

Methods and apparatus for enabling fast early termination of voice frames on the uplink

Techniques for interference cancellation in a CDMA system. In an exemplary embodiment, a channel set scrambled using a secondary scrambling code (SSC) is estimated and cancelled along with a channel set scrambled using a primary scrambling code (SSC). The estimation and cancellation of the SSC channel set may proceed in series with the estimation and cancellation of the PSC channel set. Alternatively, the estimation of the SSC channel set may proceed in parallel with the estimation of the PSC channel set, and the cancellations of the PSC and SSC channel sets may be simultaneously performed. Multiple iterations of such estimation and cancellation may be performed in a successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme.
