A bipolar electrodialysis (BPED) cell is able to bipolar convert salt solutions into acid and base solutions. However, protons migrate through the anion exchange membranes and tend to neutralize the base solution. In a bipolar electrodialysis system described herein, multiple BPED cells are arranged to provide a multi-stage treatment system. Up to half, or up to one third, of the stages have cells with acid block anion membranes. The one or more stages with acid block anion membranes are located at the acid product output end of the system, where the acid concentration in the system is the highest. Replacing the traditional anion membranes in some of the stages with acid block anion membranes allows higher concentration products to be produced with moderate increase in energy consumption.

Multi-stage bipolar electrodialysis system for high concentration acid or base production

The present disclosure relates to an apparatus for gravity separation, which comprises a plurality of gravity separation modules. Each of the gravity separation modules comprises an inlet, a first outlet, a first conduit connecting the inlet and the first outlet, a second outlet located vertically different from the first outlet, a second conduit in communication with the second outlet, and a plurality of third conduits connecting the first conduits and the second conduits. The present disclosure also relates to a corresponding method for gravity separation.

Apparatus and method for gravity separation and contained oil and natural gas production systems and methods

Produced water, for example from a steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) or cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) heavy oil recovery operation, is treated to recover water that is re-used to create steam. The produced water is treated in one or more thermal treatment devices such as an evaporator and a crystallizer. The thermal treatment device is seeded, for example with a calcium or magnesium salt. The thermal treatment device produces a blowdown or slurry comprising super-saturated solids and organic compounds. A solvent is added to the blowdown or slurry. The solids precipitate and are separated from the blowdown or slurry. The solvent may be recovered for re-use in treating more blowdown or slurry.

Treatment of produced water with seeded evaporator

Produced water, for example from a steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) or cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) heavy oil recovery operation, is treated to recover water that is re-used to create steam. The produced water is treated in one or more thermal treatment devices such as an evaporator and a crystallizer. The thermal treatment produces a slurry comprising dispersed or dissolved salts and organic compounds. A water-miscible solvent for one or more of the organic compounds, for example methanol, is added to the slurry. The solids precipitate and are separated from the slurry. The solvent may be recovered for re-use in treating more slurry.

Produced water treatment and solids precipitation from thermal treatment blowdown

Water, for example produced water from a steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) or cyclic steam stimulation (CSS) heavy oil recovery operation, is treated, for example to recover water re-use in creating steam. The produced water is concentrated, for example in one or more thermal treatment devices such as an evaporator and a crystallizer. A solvent and a compound or solution comprising multivalent cations is added to the concentrate. Solids precipitate and are separated from the concentrate. The solvent may be recovered for re-use in treating more concentrate.

Treatment of produced water concentrate

A treatment system is provided and comprises a precipitation unit and a recovery unit. The precipitation unit is configured to treat a solution using one or more miscible organic solvents to produce a mixture of precipitate solids and a liquid. The recovery unit is in fluid communication with the precipitation unit and configured to facilitate separating the liquid at least into an organic phase liquid and an aqueous phase liquid comprising a portion of the one or more miscible organic solvents. The treatment system further comprises a purification unit comprising one or more membrane devices in fluid communication with the recovery unit and configured to separate at least a portion of the one or more miscible organic solvents in the aqueous phase liquid from the aqueous phase liquid. A treatment system and a treatment process are also presented.

Systems and processes for treatment of solutions

A water treatment device including an electro-coagulation (EC) unit for treating a stream of feed water to produce a stream of EC treated water of lower salinity than the stream of feed water, an electrical separation unit for treating the stream of EC treated water to obtain a stream of product water of lower salinity than the EC treated water, and a precipitation unit for providing a stream of wash water to wash the electrical separation unit and become a stream of reject water flowing back to the precipitation unit, wherein precipitation in the precipitation unit produces the stream of wash water of lower salinity than the stream of reject water.

A wind power generation system includes a wind turbine at a wind turbine location, a measuring device for providing a wind condition signal at a test location, a sensor for providing a wind condition signal at the wind turbine, and a controller. A device includes a first electrode and a second electrode spaced from the first electrode to define a volume. An anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane are disposed within the volume. A controller controls a supply of electrical current from an electrical source to the first electrode and to the second electrode. The electrical current supply is controlled to switch from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation providing electrical current having a reverse polarity during each cycle. The electrical current is supplied at a controlled cycle rate and for a controlled duration. The cycle rate is greater than about 100 hertz and less than about 10 kilohertz.
