Metal sulfate alcohol composition and process therewith

A composition that can be used as a catalyst is disclosed. The composition comprises, or is produced by combining, a titanium compound, a glycol, a phosphorus compound, and optionally water. Also disclosed is a process that can be used for producing a polyester. The process comprises contacting, in the presence of a catalyst composition, a carbonyl compound and an alcohol under a condition suitable for esterification, transesterification, or polymerization. The catalyst composition comprises, or is produced by combining, a titanium compound, a glycol, a phosphorus compound, and optionally water.

Catalyst composition and process therewith

Disclosed is a process that comprises contacting, in the presence of an esterification or transesterification or polycondensation catalyst composition, a toner, and a phosphorus compound, a carbonyl compound and an alcohol under a condition suitable for esterification, transesterification, or polymerization.

Polyester process

A glycol-organosilane composition and a process for producing the composition are disclosed. The composition comprises or is produced by combining (a) a glycol and (b) an organosilane. This composition is preferably substantially soluble in glycol and water. Also disclosed is a polyester composition and a process to produce the composition. The composition comprises repeat units derived from (a) a carbonyl compound or its oligomer, (b) a glycol, (c) a crosslinker, and (d) optionally a comonomer. The crosslinker can be the glycol-organosilane, a carbonyl compound containing 3 or more carboxyl groups, or an alcohol containing 3 or more hydroxyl groups. The comonomer is a dicarboxylic compound, a diol compound, or a carbonyl alcohol. The polyester composition can be used to increase the rate of polymerization, to increase pilling resistance and strength of polyester, to decrease crystallization rate and improve object forming process such as fibers and containers.

Crosslinked polyester copolymers

A process for producing a partially ester-exchanged SIPM such as an alkali metal bis(2-hydroxyethyl) 5-sulfoisophthalate produced from an alkali metal dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate in an alcohol is disclosed. The partially ester-exchanged SIPM in an alcohol can be used to copolymerize with oligomer of terephthalic acid or dimethyl terephthalate and an alcohol. Also disclosed is a process for controlling the color of a dyeable polyester using a phosphorous compound.

Partially ester-exchanged SIPM and process therewith

A composition that can be used as catalyst is disclosed. The composition comprises, or is produced by combining, (A) a titanium compound; (B) either (i) a complexing agent, (ii) a combination of a complexing agent, hypophosphorous acid or a salt thereof, and optionally a solvent, a zirconium compound, or both, (iii) combinations thereof; (C) a phosphorus compound; and optionally a solvent. Also disclosed is a process that can be used for producing a polyester. The process comprises contacting, in the presence of an esterification or transesterification or polycondensation catalyst composition and a phosphorus compound, a carbonyl compound and an alcohol under a condition suitable for esterification, transesterification, or polymerization. Further disclosed is a process to make polyester with reduced insoluble particles or solids using a phosphorus compound other than the commonly used phosphoric acid.

A substantially soluble solution of isophthalic acid in a glycol can be prepared and contacted with terephthalic acid, its ester, its oligomer, or combinations of two or more thereof. The solution can be used to incorporate isophthalic acid into polyester for bottle resins and fiber.

Metal-containing composition and process therewith

A process for producing a partially esterified SIPA such as an alkali metal sulfoisophthalic acid in a glycol is disclosed. The partially esterified SIPA in a glycol can be used to copolymerize with oligomer of terephthalic acid dimethyl terephthalate and a glycol. Also disclosed is a process for controlling the color of a dyeable polyester using a phosphorous compound. Further disclosed is a process for producing a dyeable polyester using a nickel or nickel alloy as surface metal or fluoropolymer surface in processing equipment.

Sulfoisophthalic acid solution process therewith

A process for producing a polyester. The process comprises polymerizing a polymerization mixture comprising (i) a carbonyl compound or an oligomer of a carbonyl compound and (ii) a glycol, in the presence of a titanium catalyst composition, to produce the polyester, wherein a coated titanium dioxide comprising a titanium dioxide and a coat is added before or during the polymerizing.

Process for producing polyester with coated titanium dioxide

A process for increasing the pill resistance of a polyester polymer wherein the polyester polymer is produced by polymerizing a polymerization mixture comprising (a) a carbonyl compound or an oligomer of the carbonyl compound and (b) a glycol. The process comprises contacting the polymerization mixture with a cross-linker comprising (RO) Si(X) Z , wherein: R is hydrogen, a hydrocarbon, or a hydrocarbon oxygen; X is a hydrocarbon or a hydrocarbon oxygen; Z is a hydrophilic group; m is 1 to 3; n is 1 to 3; and p is 1 to 30.
