An apparatus and a method for a terminal device control server. The terminal device control server collecting, storing and providing information (i.e. device intelligence) relating to a plurality of terminal devices in a mobile communication network. A policy based control mechanism can be used in conjunction with one or more authorization lists and the device intelligence to respond to requests from various elements in the network to allow or deny access to the network or to services within the network to specific terminal devices. The device intelligence can alternatively be used to improve the effectiveness of service offerings in the network by providing information associated with a specific terminal device to other elements that adapt their services offerings and interactions to the capabilities of the specific terminal devices.

Terminal device control server and method for controlling access to a mobile communication network

An apparatus and a method for context-sensitive multimedia message service (MMS) response. The provision of a response to a MMS UA originated MMS message (e.g. requesting to send a multimedia message (MM)) that is context-sensitive allows the network operator/service provider to provide value-added and potentially revenue generating content in the response. The content of the response can be context-sensitive based on one or more context parameters. The context parameters can be based on any of the information elements in the MMS UA originated MMS message, on fields in an associated MM, inputs provided by other external systems (e.g., accounting, presence and location information) and combinations thereof.

Context-sensitive multimedia message service response

An apparatus and a method for improving short message service dependability by reducing the risk of an SM being loss due to failure in a network having both an SMS routers and an SMSC and in which forward and store delivery or Early-Ack is enabled in the router. Alternative apparatus and methods are presented which mitigate the possibility of losing an SM before it is delivered to a recipient or received and persistently stored by the SMSC by placing the SM in a survivable storage medium before acknowledgement of the SM is sent to the submitter of the SM and by providing a recovery mechanism that can re-attempt a delivery or a forwarding of the SM, based on the content of the survivable storage medium, in the case of a failure.

Apparatus and method for improving short message service dependability

An apparatus and a method for routing a multimedia message sent by a user agent to one of a plurality of multimedia message service centers, the user agent applying a pre-determined determined destination address to the multimedia message. The multimedia message is received at the pre-determined destination address, a target multimedia message service center is selected and the multimedia message is forwarded to the target multimedia message service center. Routing is based on address information contained in the multimedia message, session identification information associated with the multimedia message, load-balancing and fault-tolerance information associated with each one of the plurality of multimedia message service centers, service identifying information contained in the multimedia message and combinations thereof.

Apparatus and method for routing multimedia messages between a user agent and multiple multimedia message service centers

A system for a network operator to manage a message-based application, provided to a subscriber, and an application provider, providing said application, in a communications network connected to a message gateway for relaying and translating messages between the application and the subscriber. The system comprising: a subscription management module for managing publication of the application and subscription to the application by the subscriber; an application management module for managing the availability of the application based on authorization by the network operator and the application provider; and a message handler module for managing relaying, translating and enhancing, with value-added information, of the messages via the message gateway based on information from the subscription management module and the application management module.
