A method of enhancing a downlink channel coding structure in an OFDMA (orthogonal frequency division multiple access) communication system is provided. The method includes: segmenting a concatenation of multiple transport blocks amongst multiple component carriers; and separately performing link adaptation for each component carrier according to channel conditions experienced by that component carrier.

A method of downlink control signalling for downlink multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) operation between a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and User Equipment (UE) includes the following steps. Maintaining one or more mapping tables at a network location accessible by the UE, the mapping tables including first UE signalling data. Transmitting a message index to the UE to enable relevant first UE signalling data to be read by the UE. Transmitting second UE signalling data to the UE. At the UE, using the first and second UE signalling data to derive UE control data.

Downlink control signalling for downlink MIMO

A method of encoding a bit sequence over a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) having Downlink Control Information (DCI) including: determining DCI bits to provide a DCI bit sequence; performing a CRC calculation on the DCI bit sequence to provide a CRC parity bit sequence; scrambling the CRC parity bit sequence to provide a scrambled CRC bit sequence; if the DCI format is LTE-A, further scrambling the DCI together with the attached scrambled CRC bit sequence to provide a LTE-A scrambled bit sequence; channel coding either the DCI attached scrambled CRC bit sequence or LTE-A scrambled bit sequence to provide a channel coded bit sequence; modulating the channel coded bit sequence to provide a modulated symbol sequence; layer mapping the modulated symbol sequence to one or more antennas associated with a transmitter to provide one or more layers having a symbol sequence; and precoding the layered symbol sequences.

Method and apparatus for encoding and decoding

A method for QR-maximum likelihood detection (QR-MLD) demodulation is provided. The method includes determining a transmission reception mode, receiving symbols represented by a received symbol vector, generating a channel matrix, and performing QR decomposition on the channel matrix to compute a unitary matrix and an upper triangular matrix. The method further includes the steps of processing the received symbol vector by multiplying the received symbol vector by the Hermitian of the unitary matrix, determining whether a conjugate calculation will be required to set a conjugate flag, computing a first distance metric by performing a conjugate or non-conjugate first distance metric calculation depending on the conjugate flag, and computing an estimated symbol by performing a conjugate or non-conjugate estimated symbol calculation depending on the conjugate flag. The method provided is less complex than existing demodulation methods, and it may be used to at least demodulate data transmitted via different modes.

Method for QR-MLD demodulation

A method of calculating at least one soft bit corresponding to a data symbol received by a radio receiver is described. In one form the method () includes, calculating an average amplitude at least one received data symbol. The method also includes calculating () at least one threshold amplitude in respect of the data symbol on the basis of the calculated average amplitude. Next a subset of constellation symbols is determined () at least partly on the basis of the at least one threshold, and for which a distance determination will be made. The distance between the position of the data symbol and each of the symbols in the subset of constellation symbols is determined () and then a soft bit corresponding to the received symbol is calculated () on the basis of said determined distances.
