The self-propelled cleaner () of the present invention includes an event detecting section () for detecting an event which relates to cleaning and has occurred in the cleaner, a feeling selecting section () for selecting, from a plurality of options, an operation mode with which the cleaner carries out an operation in response to the event, in accordance with measured information which relates to the cleaning and is measured by the cleaner, and a response operation control section () for controlling the cleaner to carry out the operation based on the operation information which is associated with the event and the operation mode.

An object of the present invention is to find a route on which a self-propelling electronic device preferentially runs a region which (i) is designated by a user and (ii) the self-propelling electronic device ran less frequently. An apparatus used in a system powered by a battery for detecting end of battery life. The apparatus includes an electromotive force comparing circuit getting power supply from a battery for comparing electromotive force of the battery with a predetermined value, and an intermittently enabling circuit for intermittently enabling the electromotive force comparing circuit. The electromotive force comparing circuit receives, only when it is enabled by the intermittently enabling circuit, power from the battery to operate. When not enabled, the electromotive force comparing circuit does not consume any power from the battery.

A power-saving serial data transfer circuit for outputting an inputted digital data signal through a plurality of serially connected shift register cells comprises n (=m.times.k) cells in k groups each containing m serially connected cells. A digital data signal is applied commonly to the first-stage cells of the groups and inputted in a time-wise segmented sequence to the cells by shift pulses with different phases. The inputted data signal is shifted through the cells within the same groups and is inputted to the last-stage cells of the groups. The inputted data signal is also outputted through a multiplexer connected to the last stage cells.
