A method is provided for performing power validation on an integrated circuit (IC) design based on a power assertion specification. The method includes receiving the power assertion specification for the IC design, where the power assertion specification includes a predicted power consumption. Power consumption of the IC design is estimated according to power assertions specified in the power assertion specification. The estimated power consumption is compared against the predicted power consumption included in the power assertion specification. The IC design is determined to be associated with a power assertion failure based on results of the comparing. In response to determining that the IC design is associated with the power assertion failure, the IC design is refined to remedy the power assertion failure.

A system is disclosed that includes a memory and a processor configured to perform operations stored in the memory. The processor performs the operations to select a master clock for a plurality of clocks in a design logic circuit. The processor further performs the operations to align a clock edge of a clock of the plurality of clocks with a corresponding nearest clock transition of the master clock. The aligned clock edge of the clock limits a number of emulation cycles for the design logic to a fixed number of emulation cycles required for the master clock The processor further performs the operation to determine a clock period for measuring power required for the design logic circuit and estimate, at the aligned clock edge, the power required for the design logic circuit corresponding to the determined clock period, which corresponds to a clock selected from the plurality of clocks and the master clock.

Automated routing of signal nets for interposer designs. Signal nets are defined by their endpoints (bumps). The nets and their corresponding bumps are assigned to bump groups, based on the relative locations of the bumps and also based on length-matching constraints for the nets. Some of the bump groups may be 'clones,' where the routing for one bump group may also be applied to its clone. In order for two bump groups to be clones, the bumps in the two bump groups must have a same relative position (i.e., same bump pattern), and the nets in the two bump groups must be subject to the same length-matching constraint. The routing through the interposer for one of the clones is determined, and that routing is then replicated for the other clones.

A simulation application can be executed by a computer system to develop thermal maps for an electronic architectural design. The simulation application can simulate the electronic architectural design over time. The simulation application can capture electronic signals from the electronic architectural design as the electronic architectural design is being simulated over time. The simulation application can determine power consumptions of the electronic architectural design over time from the electronic signals. The simulation application can derive temperatures of the electronic architectural design over time from the power consumptions. The simulation application can map the temperatures onto an electronic circuit design real estate of the electronic architectural design to develop the thermal maps over time.

Comprehensive thermal mapping of an electronic circuit design through design simulation

System-on-chip (SoC) designs include large amounts of interconnected intellectual property blocks and standard-cell logic using complex bus fabrics. Today SoC design-closure that validates design targets of area, timing, congestion and power constraints is accomplished post routing as over 80% of validation problems are due to global-interconnect. A method is disclosed that allows the designers to achieve global design-closure and physical topology constraints, early in the design cycle, at much higher levels of abstraction. In particular, logic hierarchy of the design is converted into a physical hierarchy of functional-related clusters of locally-connected logic. The clusters and inter-cluster global connections can be refined to meet design constraints in order to generate a top-level floor-plan in the form of library and constraint files. Using the results of this top-down global design-closure method the designers can use the generated floor-plan to guide downstream tools to achieve predictable and correlatable design implementation.

This invention provides a method for detecting physical implementation hot-spots in a pre-placement integrated circuit design. The method first identifies physical issues at an object level. Physical issues include timing, routing congestion, clocking, scan, power, and thermal. The method then analyzes these physical issues over a collection of connected logic cell and large cell instances and determines a physical implementation hot-spot severity based on the number and severity of physical issues as well as the number of objects in the related collection.

Efficient method to analyze RTL structures that cause physical implementation issues based on rule checking and overlap analysis

A logical congestion metric analysis engine predicts pre-placement routing congestion of integrated circuit designs. The engine uses a method employing new congestion-predicting metrics derived from structural register transfer level (RTL). The method compares multiple metrics to those stored in a knowledge base to predict routing congestion. The knowledge base contains routing results for multiple designs using the same technology. For each design the knowledge base holds pre-placement metric values and the corresponding post-placement and routing congestion results. A logical congestion debug tool allows users to visualize and fix congestion issues.
