A connection system is provided for modular luminaires, wherein the luminaires are each provided with at least one tapered pillar projecting from a back, the pillar having a top opening. A coupling arrangement is used for coupling the two luminaires together, in the form of a bridge having first and second tapered openings for fitting over the pillars. A sprung retaining clip projects within each opening for passing through the top opening and thereby gripping the pillar.

Connection system for a luminaire, and a lighting system using the connection system

A luminaire () for mounting in an annular housing () having a cylindrical sidewall with an inner diameter (), said sidewall terminating in an upper rim () is disclosed. The luminaire () comprises a reflector () having a light exit aperture () mounted in an annular body and a wedge-shaped clip () movably attached to the annular body by a spring () such that the annular body has a first diameter not exceeding the inner diameter () when the clip is pressed against the body by compressing said spring; and a second diameter exceeding the inner diameter when said spring is relaxed. The clip () further comprises an outwardly inclined member () in the direction of the light exit aperture and the reflector further comprises an outwardly inclining groove () in the direction of the light exit aperture engaging with the outwardly inclined member () to facilitate easy release of the luminaire from its annular housing. A mounting kit including the luminaire and annular housing is also disclosed, as is a mounting method for mounting the luminaire in such an annular housing.

Luminaire, mounting kit and mounting method

The invention provides a lamp () comprising a lamp body () and a mounting unit (), for fitting through an opening in a substrate. The mounting unit has a front ring () for mounting against a front side of the substrate and an arrangement of lugs (), sliders () and brackets (). The brackets have a collapsed position in which the brackets fit through the opening; and an expanded locked position in which the brackets do not fit through the opening and the brackets are positioned for engaging with a back side of the substrate. The brackets are driven into their positions by a pushing/pulling arrangement rather than by using sprung arrangements. This enables damage to the substrate to be prevented.
