A thermal transfer printing method for forming a screen on photographic paper without providing a margin between the screen and a screen adjacent thereto. Photographic paper is unwound from a roll and then a screen having an image is formed on the paper, by transferring yellow, magenta, and cyan colorants onto the paper using a first heating means, without providing a margin between the screen and an adjacent screen. The paper is then cut at a rear edge of the screen so as to manufacture an individual photographic paper on which the screen has been formed, which is then conveyed to a second heating means. A screen protective layer is then formed on an overall surface of the screen formed on the individual photographic paper, by thermally transferring the screen protective film onto the overall surface of the screen formed on the individual photographic paper by the second heating means.

An intermediate transfer recording medium is comprised by providing a transfer portion having a receptor layer on a substrate film. The transfer portion is printed with the image and thereafter transferred on a surface of a transfer-receiving material. In the first aspect of the intermediate transfer recording medium, the transfer portion is provided with plural hologram patterns,with a hologram mark,allocated to each the hologram pattern. According to the first aspect of the invention, since an image is formed on the receptor layer through positioning process using the hologram mark and then the transfer portion is transferred to the surface of the transfer-receiving material, no joint of a print plate appears in the hologram pattern and accuracy of transfer is remarkably excellent. On the other hand, In the second aspect of the intermediate transfer recording medium, peeling strength required to peel the transfer portion from the substrate film at the time when transferring the transfer portion to the transfer-receiving material is controlled in the range of 10 to 150 gf/inch. According to the second aspect of the invention, any transfer failure such as tail-extension or chip of the transfer portion is not caused.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method for preparing a printed product in which a transfer layer of an intermediate transfer recording medium can be transfer via a transferring adhesive layer having a suitable adhesive property to either one of the transfer layer and a transfer-receiving material, and thus transferred images do not have turbulence. This objects can be achieved by providing, a method for forming a printed product through that a transfer layer bearing an image is transferred on a transfer-receiving material via a transferring adhesive layer, characterized in that the method comprises following steps. The first step is preparing an intermediate transfer recording medium comprising at least a base film and the transfer, and an adhesive layer transfer sheet comprising at least a substrate sheet and the transferring adhesive layer comprising at least an uppermost layer and a basement layer. And the second step is carrying out a first transfer step in which the transferring adhesive layer is transferred on the transfer layer bearing the image in advance, and a second transfer step in which the transfer layer on which the transferring adhesive layer is transferred, transfers on the transfer-receiving material.

A print with a hologram, such as an ID card, including a transferred image including a transferred sublimable dye image of a full color using sublimable dye inks, and a hologram and the like laminated on the transferred image for security purposes. A protect layer transfer sheet of the present invention comprises a substrate, an untransferable release layer and a thermally transferable protect layer, the protect layer being disposed on at least one area of a surface of the substrate by the medium of the release layer. The untransferable release layer comprises at least a cross-linking resin having a chemical structure comprises at least a side chain A and a side chain B on a principle chain formed of a carbon chain, and cross-linking at least a part of the side chain A and the side chain B. Therefore, the adhesive strength between the substrate and the untransferable release layer can always be stronger than the adhesive strength between the untransferable release layer and the thermally transferable protect layer.

Disclosed herein are a thermal transfer printing sheet capable of efficiently transferring images, letters, symbols or the like to both surfaces of an image-receiving material, and a process of double-side transfer printing using the same. The thermal transfer printing sheet comprises a substrate sheet; an area for surface transfer printing, comprising at least a sublimable dye layer composed of sections of one or more colors; and an area for reverse transfer printing, comprising at least a hot-melt ink layer composed of sections of ohe or more colors, the two areas being alternately provided on one surface of the substrate sheet. An image is printed on the surface of an image-receiving material by using the area for surface transfer printing, and another image is printed on the back of the image-receiving material by using the area for reverse transfer printing. Double-side transfer printing can thus be efficiently conducted without leaving unused areas on the thermal transfer printing sheet.

This invention provides a thermal transfer sheet causing little static electricity during transfer onto a material as a transfer image support, and printed matter excellent in antistatic properties. The thermal transfer sheet comprises a protective transfer layer provided in at least part of one surface of a base sheet via a nontransferable release layer so as to be peelable, and has an antistatic agent contained in at least one of the release layer and the protective transfer layer. Printed matter is prepared by transferring the protective transfer layer from the above thermal transfer sheet onto an image formed on a substrate by a sublimation transfer process so as to cover at least part of the image.

A protect layer transfer sheet of the present invention comprises a substrate, an untransferable release layer and a thermally transferable protect layer, the protect layer being disposed on at least one area of a surface of the substrate by the medium of the release layer. The release layer contains at least one substance selected from the group consisting of inorganic particles having a mean particle size of 40 nm or less, alkyl vinyl ether--maleic anhydride copolymer, derivatives of the alkyl vinyl ether--maleic anhydride copolymer and ionomer. According to the present invention, it is possible that a protect layer is surely and constantly transferred on an image formed in a printed product at all times. Furthermore it is also possible to make the thermally transferable protect layer a single-ply structure by omitting an adhesive layer. The single-ply structure of the protect layer has an improved transparency, thus increasing the highest density of a highly quality image covered with the protect layer.

A thermal transfer sheet is provided which can thermally transfer an excellent image capable of maintaining various types of durability, various types of fastness, particularly weather resistance and the like for a long period of time. The thermal transfer sheet comprises: a substrate film; a sublimable black dye layer and a transferable protective layer provided on the substrate film in a face serial manner, the sublimable black dye layer comprising a mixture of particular yellow, magenta, and cyan dyes. A thermal transfer method using such a thermal transfer sheet is also disclosed.
