The solution concerns hydrophilic transparent crosslinked copolymers and a method for their production. A substance of the solution is the hydrophilic copolymer which can be prepared by the radical copolymerization of monomers with the general formula I, where R is hydrogen or methyl, alone or in their mutual combinations or by copolymerization of the monomers with general formula I and the monomers with general formula II, where R.sup.1 means hydrogen or methyl and X is a group OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH, OCH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.3, OCH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 OH, (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.3 OH, (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.2 OH, alkoxyl from OCH.sub.3 to OC.sub.16 H.sub.33, NH.sub.2, NHCH.sub.2 (OH)CH.sub.3, N(C.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.2, and NH-tert-C.sub.4 H.sub.9, whereas the content of monomers of the general formula I and II amounts to 40 to 99.99 wt.-% of the entire mixture, where at least 5 wt.-% form the monomers of general formula I, with 0.01 to 60 wt.-% of a crosslinking agent, related to the entire monomer mixture, which has at least two olefinic double bonds, in the presence of radical initiators. ##STR1##

The solution pertains to a hydrophilic copolymer suitable in particular for contact and intraocular lenses and medical applications and to a method for its production. The solution consists in a hydrophilic copolymer which can be prepared by copolymerization of 5 to 95 wt.-% 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone with 95 to 5 wt.-% alkylene glycol acetate methacrylates or acrylates of the general formula I ##STR1## where R is the group CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH-- or CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)-- and n means an integer 1 to 3, in the presence of 0.01 to 50 wt.-% of a crosslinking agent under the conditions of radical copolymerization in the presence of radical initiators.

Hydrophilic copolymer and the method for producing thereof

A method and apparatus for the polymerization cast molding of lenses from hydrophilic gels. A hydrophobic liquid which is essentially immiscible with a hydrophilic polymerization mixture is introduced into a mold having a hydrophobic surface, followed by dosing of the hydrophilic monomer mixture which is allowed to polymerize to form a drop which is pressed, while polymerizing, into the mold with a punch having a hydrophobic molding surface. The polymerizing monomer mixture is maintained under the pressure of the punch until the end of the polymerization. Any overflow of the two liquids is allowed to escape between the mold and the punch. The apparatus comprises a concave mold with an inner hydrophobic, rotation-symmetrical surface, and a punch with a hydrophobic molding surface which when placed in relationship to the mold has an overflow space formed between the mold and the punch.

Method for polymerization cast molding of lenses from hydrophilic gels

Hydrophilic three dimensional polymers, the prevailing mass of which is formed by structural units corresponding to monomers miscible with water at any ratio, and the method for their production, wherein one weight part of the monomers miscible with water is copolymerized, by the effect of free-radical initiators, with 0.01 to 1 weight part of a polyfunctional unsaturated oligomer, which is prepared with an average degree of polymerization x=3 to x=100 by the anionic polymerization of allyl methacrylate, with the contingent addition of methacrylonitrile or methacrylic esters of univalent saturated alcohols containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or methacrylic esters of monohydroxy compounds containing at least one etheric oxygen atom in the chain, or where 0.7 to 1 weight part of monomers miscible with water is copolymerized with 0.01 to 0.3 weight parts of hydrophobic monomers of the alkyl methacrylate or acrylate type in the presence of an oligomeric crosslinking agent with at least two olefinic double bonds added in the amount of 0.01 to 0.1 weight parts, advantageously up to 0.05 weight parts, by the effect of free-radical initiators.

Hydrophilic three dimensional polymer and a method for production thereof

There is disclosed a hydrophilic gel suitable for exposure to repeated long-term contact with live tissues or mucous membranes and consisting of macromolecules obtained by polymerizing a mixture of at least two copolymerizable units and a crosslinking agent. The mixture consists of from 52 to 99.5 parts by weight of N,N-diethylacrylamide, 43 to 0.1 parts by weight of a member selected from the group consisting of N,N-dialkyl acrylamide, N-alkyl methacrylamide, nitriles of acrylic and methacrylic acids and from 5 to 0.4 parts by of a divinylic monomer selected from the group consisting of diesters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, and methylene or ethylene-bis-methacrylamide or acrylamide.

Hydrophilic N,N-diethyl acrylamide copolymers

The invention relates to copolymers based on N-substituted acrylamides, N-substituted methacrylamides and N,N-disubstituted acrylamides and to a method for their manufacturing, which copolymers are prepared under conditions when the phase separation takes place. The resulting copolymer contains reactive groups and serves as the intermediate for preparation of biologically active compounds (enzymes, hormones, drugs, etc.) bonded to the polymer. The procedure according to the invention enables to prepare porous polymers suitable as separation barriers (membranes) or column packings for gel or affinity chromatography, if the polymerization is carried out in the presence of a divinyl component.

Copolymers based on N-substituted acrylamides, N-substituted

Soluble, hydrophilic polymers suitable for medical use and as blood plasma substitutes comprising low molecular weight polymer derived from at least one monomer of an acrylamide type material or a mono-ester of an acrylic type acid and a glycol which is condensed with bifunctional compounds to form a condensation polymer having increased molecular weight and enzymatically cleavable cross-links. The hydrophilic polymer is produced by polymerizing the acrylamide type material or mono-ester mentioned above to form a low molecular weight polymer which is then condensed with a bifunctional compound to form a high molecular weight condensation polymer having enzymatically cleavable cross-links.

Soluble hydrophilic polymers and process for producing the same

Surgical infusion solutions, useful particularly as blood plasma substitutes, comprising physiological solution of polymers or copolymers formed from ethyleneglycol acrylates and methacrylates, acrylamide, methacrylamide and acrylamides and methacrylamides substituted on the nitrogen atom with either one or two lower alkyl radicals and/or one or two hydroxyalkyl or dihydroxyalkyl radicals containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms and mixtures of these polymeric materials dissolved in a physiological solvent therefor. The polymerization or copolymerization is carried out by solution polymerization methods and the polymeric material is precipitated by mixing it in a suitable non-solvent therefor, but which is miscible with the polymerization solvent.

Also hydrogen catalysts of compositions bonded to platinum, palladium or rhodium metal. A process for producing the matter, wherein glycol esters of acrylic or methacrylic acid are copolymerized with methacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile, if desired in the presence of a crosslinking agent.

Soluble, hydrophilic polymers suitable for medical use and as blood plasma substitutes comprising low molecular weight polymer derived from at least one monomer of an acrylamide type material or a mono-ester of an acrylic type acid and a glycol which is condensed with bifunctional compounds to form a condensation polymer having increased molecular weight and enzymatically cleavable cross-links.
