A switched mode power converter is described, configured to convert electrical power between a first voltage at a first port and a second voltage at a second port, where the first and second voltages are relative to a reference potential. The power converter comprises an inductive element having a first side and a second side, where the first side of the inductive element is coupled to the first port. The power converter comprises a power switch configured to couple or to decouple the second side of the inductive element to or from the reference potential. The power converter comprises a capacitive element having a first side and a second side, where the first side of the capacitive element is coupled to the power switch and the second side of the capacitive element is coupled to the second port. The power converter comprises an auxiliary switch configured to couple or to decouple the second side of the capacitive element to or from the reference potential. The power converter comprises a control unit configured to control the power switch and the auxiliary switch in a repetitive manner to convert electrical power.

Short circuit protection for a power converter

A power converter to convert power between a first converter voltage at a first converter port and a second converter voltage at a second converter port is presented. It contains a first capacitor network, an inductor and a first switching matrix to arrange the first capacitor network and the inductor within different states. One of the states is a bypass state enabling current to flow from the first converter port or from ground through the first capacitor network to the second converter port without going through the inductor. Another state is an inductor state enabling current to flow from the first converter port or from ground through the inductor to the second converter port. The power converter also includes a control unit to control the first switching matrix repeatedly in a recurrent sequence of the different states.

Hybrid DCDC power converter with increased efficiency

This application relates to a lighting system comprising a plurality of light emitting diode, LED, circuits, and a power source for providing a drive voltage to the plurality of LED circuits. For each LED circuit, the lighting system comprises a first variable resistance element connected between the respective LED circuit and ground, and a first feedback circuit configured to control a voltage at a first node between the respective LED circuit and the respective first variable resistance element to a first voltage. The lighting system further comprises a current source and a second variable resistance element connected between the current source and ground, wherein each first variable resistance element is configured to attain a resistance value depending on a resistance value attained by the second variable resistance element.
