A backlight unit which significantly reduces overshoot of a light source driving current and audible noise includes a light source driven by a light source driving voltage, a light source controller controlling the light source driving voltage, and a soft starter generating a first soft start voltage by receiving a charge signal from the light source controller and outputting the first soft start voltage to the light source controller, and generating a second soft start voltage when the charge signal is not applied thereto and outputting the second soft start voltage to the light source controller.

Backlight unit

A backlight unit includes: a light source configured to emit light based on a driving current; and a backlight controller receiving a digital dimming signal that defines a length of an output period of the driving current from a pulse width modulator and configured to, when a duty ratio of the driving current is less than a reference duty ratio, modulates the duty ratio of the driving current so that the duty ratio of the driving current is equal to or greater than the reference duty ratio and decrease a duty ratio of the digital dimming signal.

A backlight unit capable of substantially reducing a change in a level of a driving current includes: a light source; a static current switching element connected between the light source and a sensing node and controlling a driving current supplied to the light source; a sensing resistor connected between the sensing node and a ground; a static current controller controlling an operation of the static current switching element based on a sensing voltage from the sensing node and an externally supplied driving current control signal; and a driving current corrector generating the driving current control signal and correcting a level of the driving current control signal based on the sensing voltage.
