A mounting assembly for an injector is located in a curved portion of an exhaust line having an exhaust flow from an upstream end to a downstream end. The mounting assembly includes an indent extending at least partially into the exhaust line curved portion and disposed in the exhaust flow. The downstream wall has an interior surface oriented to substantially face the exhaust line downstream end. A recess extends from the downstream wall in a direction away from the exhaust line downstream end, and a recess aperture is formed in the recess and configured to fluidly communicate with the injector. The recess reduces the amount of exhaust heat reaching the injector tip.

Mounting assembly for a reductant injector

A reductant dosing system for an engine is disclosed. The reductant dosing system may have a supply of reductant, a reservoir configured to hold pressurized reductant, and a pump configured to draw reductant from the supply and discharge reductant at an elevated pressure into the reservoir. The reductant dosing system may also have a plurality of injectors fluidly connected to the reservoir, and a drain valve fluidly connected between the reservoir and the supply.

Reductant dosing system

An exhaust aftertreatment system including an exhaust flow area, a first bank of one or more exhaust treatment devices in fluid communication with the exhaust flow area and a second bank of one or more exhaust treatment devices in fluid communication with the exhaust flow area. The first bank may be arranged in parallel with the second bank and inlet of the first bank is configured to provide greater flow resistance to the exhaust than the inlet of the second bank.

Exhaust aftertreatment system

A system and method controls injection of a reductant agent in a selective catalytic reduction system. The system and method include an injector injecting the reductant agent to an exhaust system directing exhaust from a power system. A coolant system circulates coolant proximate to the injector. A coolant temperature sensor monitors a coolant temperature of the coolant. A controller adjusts the injection timing of the injector based at least in part on the coolant temperature.

System and method for introducing a reductant agent

A method for purging reductant from a reductant supply system is disclosed. The method includes dispensing reductant into an exhaust system via a dispensing device. The method also includes purging the dispensing device by urging reductant from the dispensing device to a reductant source.

Method for purging a dosing system

An engine exhaust aftertreatment system including a mixer disposed in the exhaust stream. The mixer includes a mesh section having a mesh of wires and may include a baffle section having a deflector that redirects a direction of flow of the exhaust stream. The mesh section may not extend across an entire width of an exhaust conduit containing the exhaust stream. The mesh section may also be sized and located to intersect the reductant introduced by the injector.

A reductant dosing system for a machine having an engine and an exhaust system is disclosed. The reductant dosing system has a tank configured to hold a reductant, a dosing arrangement, and a supply passage connecting the tank to the dosing arrangement. The reductant dosing system also has a purging arrangement configured to direct purge fluid to at least one of the dosing arrangement and the supply passage, and a valve configured to allow reductant to pass from the tank to the supply passage and to inhibit purge fluid from entering the tank.

Reductant dosing system having anti-aeration device

A method of fabricating a piezo actuator is disclosed. The method includes forcing a blank against a mold to form a cylindrical casing having an open end and a closed end and rotating the cylindrical casing. The method also includes urging a die having a plurality of equally spaced protrusions into a surface of the cylindrical casing to form bellows in the cylindrical casing. The method further includes positioning a piezo element within the cylindrical casing.

Method of manufacturing a fuel injector having an encased piezo electric actuator

A fuel injector for a work machine is disclosed. The fuel injector has nozzle member having at least one orifice and a needle valve element having a tip end. The needle valve element is axially movable to selectively allow and block fuel flow through the at least one orifice with the tip end. The fuel injector also has at least one supply passageway in communication with the tip end of the needle valve and a variable restrictive device disposed within the at least one supply passageway.

Fuel system having variable injection pressure

A control system for a fuel injector is disclosed. The control system has a nozzle member with at least one orifice, and a needle check valve. The needle check valve is recipratingly disposed to open and close the at least one orifice. The control system also has a control chamber located at the base end of the needle check valve, and a control valve movable to selectively drain and fill the control chamber. The control system further has an injector body, a first piston located within the injector body, and a second piston located within the injector body. The first piston is operatively connected to the control valve to move the control valve. The second piston is located a distance from the first piston to form a coupling chamber. The control system additionally has a partial-ball check valve associated with the coupling chamber to selectively replenish the coupling chamber.

Fuel injector control system

An actuator for a fuel injector is disclosed. The actuator has a piezo element, a casing, and at least one end plate. The casing is fabricated through a deep draw process, has bellows, and is configured to house the piezo element. The at least one end plate is hermetically connected to an end portion of the casing.

Fuel injector having encased piezo electric actuator

A fuel injector for a machine is disclosed. The fuel injector has a nozzle member with a first end and a second end. The first end of the fuel injector has at least one orifice. The fuel injector also has a control chamber located at the second end of the nozzle member with an end wall portion approximately orthogonal to an axial direction of the nozzle member. The fuel injector further has a port disposed in the end wall portion of the control chamber and at least one passageway in fluid communication with the control chamber via the port. The fuel injector additionally has a needle valve element with a tip end and a base end. The tip end is configured to selectively block fuel flow through the at least one orifice. The base end has a recess configured to cap off the port.

A fuel system for a work machine is disclosed. The fuel system has a fuel injector, a first source of fuel at a first pressure, a second source of fuel at a second pressure, and a pressure control device. The pressure control device is disposed between the fuel injector and the first and second sources. The pressure control device is configured to selectively direct the fuel at the first pressure and the fuel at the second pressure to the fuel injector.

Multi-source fuel system for variable pressure injection

In one class of fuel injection systems, the individual fuel injectors cycle between high and low pressure during and between injection sequences in a given engine cycle. The fuel injectors may be hydraulically actuated, mechanically actuated, and possibly include common rail injectors equipped with an admission valve that enable the fuel injectors to cycle between high and low pressures. Many of these fuel injection systems also include a directly controlled nozzle valve that can apply or relieve pressure on a closing hydraulic surface associated with the nozzle valve. The nozzle valve is typically spring-biased and therefore has a pre-defined valve opening pressure that defines at what fuel pressure the nozzle valve will open when pressure is relieved on its closing hydraulic surface. While these fuel injection systems can produce a wide variety of rate shapes and injection sequences, generally, an injection sequence of particular interest is one that includes a relatively small volume pilot injection followed quickly in time by a relatively large volume main injection. In order to make the accuracy of the pilot injection more consistent, the nozzle valve is held closed while fuel pressure in the fuel injector builds and surpasses the valve opening pressure of the nozzle valve. This strategy helps to alleviate sensitivity of the pilot injection volume to inherent variability factors, such as geometrical tolerances, within and between fuel injectors.
