An electronic device includes a display and a processor configured to identify whether an application installed and mapped to a predefined user context predefined in the electronic device is being executed in the electronic device, based on the application being executed in the electronic device, recognize the predefined user context by using information on mapping between the application and the predefined user context, collect a usage log of the electronic device and store the usage logs, identify a usage pattern according to a user characteristic by analyzing the stored usage logs, generate a personalized user context corresponding to an undefined situation not predefined in the electronic device based on the usage pattern and control the display to output a recommendation function related to the recognized predefined user context or the personalized user context in the display in response to recognizing the predefined user context or the personalized user context.

Disclosed is electronic device for providing personalized media content, including a memory configured to store a plurality of media contents, and a processor configured to, when at least some media contents of the plurality of media contents stored in the memory are selected, analyze an object contained in the selected at least some media contents, classify the selected at least some media contents into a plurality of groups, based on the analyzed object, extract at least some of the plurality of groups, based on a user profile, and create new media content from the media contents included in the extracted groups by using a predetermined condition.
