An adaptive read algorithm for accessing information stored on a nonvolatile medium. The nonvolatile medium can be organized as a plurality of storage units. A method of servicing a read request to the nonvolatile medium can include recording a history of read-retries for read requests to individual storage units of the nonvolatile medium. The method can include adapting a read algorithm for a read request to a particular storage unit based on the history of the read-retries for the read requests to the individual storage units of the nonvolatile medium.

Memory systems may include a memory storage including at least a first stripe and a second stripe, the first stripe including data pages corresponding to the first stripe and a first parity page suitable for storing a first XOR parity, and the second stripe including data pages corresponding to the second stripe and a second parity page suitable for storing a second XOR parity, the data pages and parity pages being stored over a plurality of memory dies, wherein each memory die includes a number of planes; and a controller suitable for cyclically interleaving the data pages corresponding to the first stripe and the data pages corresponding to the second stripe.

Systems, methods, and/or devices are used to improve decoding of data read from a storage device with one or more memory devices. In one aspect, the method includes obtaining, in response to a read request, a codeword with two or more codeword portions from distinct memory portions of the storage device. When a decoding iteration on the codeword fails to satisfy predetermined decoding criteria, the method includes, for the two or more codeword portions of the codeword: determining a bit-flip count between raw read data for a respective codeword portion and a decoding result for the respective codeword portion after the decoding iteration; determining a soft information offset for the respective codeword portion based on the bit-flip count for the respective codeword portion relative to bit-flips counts for other codeword portions; and adjusting soft information for the respective codeword portion based on the soft information offset.
