A slightly heavy particle system for wastewater treatment includes a contactor. The contactor includes a gas-liquid-solid three-phase region, and the gas-liquid-solid three-phase region includes gas phase, liquid phase, and solid phase. The liquid phase is the continuous phase and the solid phase is slightly heavy particles. The slightly heavy particles are able to carry some microorganisms on their surfaces at least, and the density of the slightly heavy particles is higher than the density of the liquid. The slightly heavy particle system applied in wastewater treatment can increase the concentration of microorganisms significantly, improve the ability to bear impact load, produce less sludge, and without sludge expansion. Meanwhile, suspending slightly heavy particles with the combined effect of gas and liquid is able to reduce energy consumption to a larger extent. Therefore, this system features with high efficiency and low energy consumption.

Slightly heavy particle system for wastewater treatment

A container-type apparatus for wastewater treatment with a suspended particle system, including one or multiple biological reaction zones. The biological reaction zones can be facultative, anaerobic, anoxic, and aerobic and at least one of the biological reaction zones is a suspended particle system. Particles in the suspended particle system act as the carrier of microbiota and offer better conditions for them to grow. The apparatus adopts a box structure, such as a container type, which is convenient to move, flexible to assemble, and can be used multiple times. Based on actual requirements, this apparatus can also be a structure type. The suspended particle system can increase the concentration of microorganisms significantly, improve the ability to bear impact load, produce less sludge, and without sludge expansion.

Container-type apparatus with a suspended particle system for wastewater treatment

The present disclosure provides a light particle system or a mixed particle system for wastewater treatment comprising a contactor. The contactor includes a gas-liquid-solid three-phase region, and the gas-liquid-solid three-phase region includes gas phase, liquid phase, and solid phase. The liquid phase is a continuous phase and the solid phase is light particles or mixed particles. The mixed particles include light particles and heavy particles. The density of the light particles is lower than the density of the liquid phase and the density of the heavy particles is higher than the density of the liquid phase. The light particles or mixed particles are able to carry some microorganisms on their surfaces at least. The light/mixed particle-suspension system in the present invention applied in wastewater treatment can increase the concentration of microorganisms significantly, improve the ability to bear impact load, produce less sludge, and without sludge expansion. The ability to suspend particles under the combined effect of gas and liquid is able to reduce energy consumption to a larger extent. Therefore, this system features both high efficiency and low energy consumption.

Light particle or mixed particle system for wastewater treatment

An apparatus for coating pharmaceutical particles such as drug dosage forms or pellets is provided which includes a drum assembly mounted for rotation about a cylindrical axis of the drum and which includes an outer drum section and an inner perforated drum section mounted concentrically on an interior of the outer drum section such that an annular chamber is formed between the perforated inner drum section and the outer drum section. Two or more baffle plates are attached between an outer surface of the inner perforated drum and an inner surface of the outer drum which are configured to act as baffles to restrain or regulate the flow of air which define two or more compartments depending on the number of baffle plates. One end of the drum assembly includes an end plate with a central aperture for use in loading pellets into the drum and provide access to coating constituents that are pumped into the drum interior during the coating process. An air distribution plate is attached at the other end of the drum and has air flow passageways and is interfaced with an air introduction plate having air inlet and outlet passageways. As the drum rotates the air flow passageways in the distribution plate alternately come into flow communication with the air inlet and outlet passageways in the air introduction plate thereby providing a flow path of air into the perforate inner drum and out of the drum assembly.

Apparatus for powder coating of particles

Biocompatible polymeric coating compositions having nanoscale surface roughness and methods of forming such coatings are described. A polymeric biocompatible coating may be produced using a powder coating method, where one or more thermosetting polymer resins and one or more biocompatible materials are mixed and extruded, ground into microscale particles, and mixed with nanoparticles to form a dry powder mixture that may be coated onto a substrate according to a powder coating method. Alternatively, the thermosetting polymeric resin can be first extruded and ground into microscale particles, and then mixed with the biocompatible materials in particular form of nanoscale to microscale in size, and then further mixed with nanoparticles to form a dry powder mixture for coating. Bioactive materials may also be selectively added into the polymeric coating in a similar way as the biocompatible materials, either before or after the extrusion, to form a bioactive polymeric coating.

Biocompatible polymer nanoparticle coating composition and method of production thereof

Blending methods for adding and uniformly mixing a small fraction of relatively small particles (additives) to a bulk particulate powder of larger size than the additives. In particular, the present invention provides blending methods for adding and uniformly mixing a small percentage of flow/fluidization additives into fine powders, especially fine paint powders. The fine powder and additives are first pre-mixed for macro-scale homogeneity and then further mixed at a micro-scale (such as with a screen mixing process) for micro-scale homogeneity. With these methods, optimum dispersions and maximum functionalities of additives can be obtained and the disadvantages caused by severe agglomerates of additives can be avoided.

Apparatus for uniformly dispersing additive particles in fine powders

A new dry powder inhaler is developed as a pulmonary medicine delivery device for dispersing precise tiny dosages (10 &#x3bc;g-50 mg) of pure carrier-free ultra-fine powdered medicament (&#x3c;5 &#x3bc;m aerodynamics particle size) into a patient's lung. The powder is drawn from the blister cell and dispersed through an outlet tube assisted by two air streams. The first air stream goes through a the blister cell from its upstream side, to significantly fluidize the medicament in the dose to flow upward. The second one extracts the fluidized powder from downstream of the blister cell for further deagglomeration and dispersion of the medicament powder by shear force. The rotating multi-dose blister can hold up to 60 doses, which are pre-metered with pure ultra-fine powdered medicament. So that it has higher drug loading capability in small volumes, compared to most current dry powder inhalers, which usually use some excipient. The inhaler efficiently disperse the aerosolized medicament in the air stream to the deep interior of patient's lung. The fine particle fraction (&#x3c;4.7 &#x3bc;m) is reported to reach as high as 80% using this inhaler.

Method and apparatus for uniformly dispersing additive particles in fine powders

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for dry coating solid dosage forms. The method includes the steps of placing solid dosage forms in a rotatable, electrically grounded housing, and spraying a film forming polymer powder composition into the housing during rotation thereof to form a polymer coating on the solid dosage forms, the polymer powder composition being sprayed using an electrostatic spray gun, and curing the coated solid dosage forms.

Direct coating solid dosage forms using powdered materials

Biological nutrient removal (BNR) in wastewater treatment to remove carbonaceous substrates, nutrients and phosphorus, has recently become increasingly popular worldwide due to increasingly stringent regulations. Biological fluidized bed (BFB) technology, which could be potentially used for BNR processes, can provide some advantages such as high efficiency and compact structure. This present invention incorporates the fixed-film biological fluidized bed technology with the biological nutrient removal in a twin liquid-solid fluidized bed, which has achieved the simultaneous elimination of organic carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus, in a very efficient manner and with very compact space requirements. The BNR-LSFB has two fluidized beds, running as anoxic/anaerobic and aerobic processes to accomplish simultaneous nitrification and denitrification and to remove carbonaceous substrates, nutrients and phosphorus, with continuous liquid and solids recirculation through the anoxic/anaerobic bed and the aerobic bed. The new BNR-LSFB system is not only an excellent alternative for conventional activated sludge type BNR technologies but is also capable of processing much higher loadings and suitable for industrial applications.

Liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed waste water treatment system for simultaneous carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus removal

A continuous Liquid-Solids Circulating Fluidized Bed (LSCFB) preferably for use as an ion exchanger consists of two fluidized bed columns, a fluidized bed adsorber (downer) operating in conventional fluidized bed mode for adsorption of ions of interest and a fluidized bed riser for desorption of ions (operating as a riser fluidized bed) to provide regenerated particles. Ion exchange particles circulate continuously between the riser and the downer i.e. the particles that have adsorbed ions in the absorber pass from the adsorber (downer) to the desorber where they are regenerated and the so regenerated particles are return to the adsorber near the top of the adsorber column. The LSCFB can be used in processes for continuous recovery of the ions of interest.

A method of assisting with fluidization of difficult-to-fluidize materials and to improve the quality of fluidization of particles in general. The use of either helium or hydrogen as a gaseous fluidization aid. The addition of hydrogen and/or helium to the fluidization agent or the substitution of part of the fluidizing gas by hydrogen or helium as a fluidization agent is disclosed. The advantageous and desirable effect is that the fluidization quality of the particles is significantly improved.

A dispensing apparatus for the dispensing of ultra-fine particles on a dry basis in a reproducible manner. The apparatus includes a first gas-solids suspension chamber having particle fluidization means adapted thereto, and a conduit adapted between the first gas-solids chamber and a second gas-solids chamber for communicating via at least one particle orifice particles between the chambers. A high velocity gas stream provides a pressure difference between the chambers whereby a low pressure zone is created within the conduit thereby drawing in particles from the first gas-solids suspension chamber into the second gas-solids suspension chamber via the conduit. The apparatus further includes a combination of a withdrawal feed and a solenoid valve to direct particles from the second gas-solids suspension chamber into a collection area.
