The present disclosure relates to lubricant compositions comprising a branched copolymer and methods for making such compositions. Lubricant compositions of the present disclosure comprise an oil and a copolymer and have a high temperature high shear (HTHS) viscosity of about 5 or less, shear stability index (30 cycles) of from about 2% to about 80%, a ratio of thickening efficiency to shear stability index (30 cycles) of from about 1:2 to about 1:30, a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of from about 3 cSt to about 30 cSt, and a thickening efficiency of about 1 or more. In another class of embodiments, the present disclosure provides a lubricant composition comprising a first and a second copolymers wherein the first copolymer has an ethylene content higher than that of the second copolymer, and wherein at least one of the two copolymers is a long chain branched ethylene copolymer.

Ethylene-propylene branched copolymers as viscosity modifiers

In some embodiments, a lubricating oil includes at least 50 wt % of a base oil, based on total weight of the lubricating oil. The lubricating oil includes at least 0.1 wt % of a polypropylene homopolymer having a racemic dyad content of about 60% to about 99% and a number average molecular weight (by GPC DRI) of about 10,000 g/mol to about 250,000 g/mol, wherein a total amount of the base oil and the polypropylene homopolymer does not exceed 100 wt %.

The present disclosure provides methods for producing an olefin polymer by contacting a C-Colefin and ethylene with a catalyst system including an activator and a metallocene catalyst compound comprising a substituted or unsubstituted tetrahydro-s-indacenyl group and obtaining a C-Colefin-ethylene copolymer typically comprising from 0.5 to 43 wt % ethylene, and from 99.5 to 57 wt % Cto Ccomonomer wherein the Tg of the terpolymer is from 0 to −60° C.

Lubricating oil composition with viscosity modifier based on syndiotactic propylene-based ethylene- propylene copolymers with improved properties

In some embodiments, ethylene-propylene random copolymers as viscosity modifiers were synthesized with pyridyldiamido catalyst systems and a chain transfer agent. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides for ethylene-propylene random copolymers having an ethylene content between about 45 wt % and about 55 wt %. In some embodiments, the ethylene-propylene random copolymer is used as a viscosity modifier in a lubricating composition and a fuel composition.

Ethylene-propylene linear copolymers as viscosity modifiers

In some embodiments, ethylene-propylene branched copolymers are synthesized with pyridyldiamido catalysts and a chain transfer agent, and their performance as viscosity modifiers in oil are detailed. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides for ethylene-propylene branched copolymers having a shear thinning onset of less than about 0.01 rad/s and an HTHS value of less than about 3.3. In some embodiments, the ethylene-propylene branched copolymer is used as a viscosity modifier in a lubricating composition and a fuel composition.

Ethylene-propylene branched copolymers as viscosity modifiers with enhanced fuel economy

This application relates to copolymer compositions and copolymerization processes, as well as to lubricating oil compositions comprising such copolymer compositions as viscosity index improvers, and base oil. The copolymer compositions may be made using two different metallocene catalysts: one capable of producing high molecular weight copolymers; and one suitable for producing lower molecular weight copolymers having at least a portion of vinyl terminations, and the copolymer compositions produced thereby. Copolymer compositions may comprise (1) a first ethylene copolymer fraction having high molecular weight, exhibiting branching topology, and having relatively lower ethylene content (based on the weight of the first ethylene copolymer fraction); and (2) a second ethylene copolymer fraction having low molecular weight, exhibiting linear rheology, and having relatively higher ethylene content (based on the weight of the second ethylene copolymer fraction). Lubricating oil compositions comprising such copolymer compositions may exhibit superior viscosity properties.

Lubricating oil compositions comprising dual metallocene-catalyzed bimodal copolymer compositions useful as viscosity modifiers

A functionalized polyolefin and a tire tread composition comprising the functionalized polyolefin is described. The functionalized polyolefin comprises a vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefin in which the vinyl/vinylidene terminus is functionalized with an alkoxysilane or an alkylsilane and optionally having ether, hydroxyl and/or amine functionality. The invention is also directed to the synthesis of vinyl/vinylidene-terminated polyolefins, functionalization at the vinyl/vinylidene terminus with an alkoxysilane or an alkylsilane and optionally having ether, hydroxyl and/or amine functionality.

Chain end functionalized polyolefins for improving wet traction and rolling resistance of tire treads

The present disclosure provides methods for producing an olefin polymer including: i) contacting alpha-olefin with a first catalyst system comprising a first non-metallocene catalyst, a first activator, and a reversible chain transfer agent to form a first polymer; ii) contacting the first polymer with a coupling agent in the presence of a catalyst, an activator; and iii) obtaining a second polymer. The present disclosure further provides polymers having a g'vis value from about 0.4 to about 0.8 and a vinyl unsaturation content of 0.8 or greater vinyls/1000 carbons, and preferably low gel content.

Process to produce long-chain branched polyolefins using dienes

A tire tread composition is disclosed. The tire tread composition includes components, by weight of the composition, within the range from: 5 to 75 wt % of a diene elastomer; 0 to 40 wt % of processing oil; 20 to 80 wt % of filler; a curative agent; and 5 to 30 wt % of a propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer containing from 2 wt % to 40 wt % of ethylene and/or C-C&#x3b1;-olefins derived units, from 0.5 to 10 wt % of diene derived units, and having a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, of from 0 J/g to 80 J/g.

Propylene-based polymer additives for improved tire tread performance

An elastomeric article comprising an olefin-block copolymer comprising within a range from 4 to 40 mol % of C4 to C12 &#x3b1;-olefin derived units, the remainder being ethylene-derived units, wherein the melting point temperature (T) is within a range from 92&#xb0; C. to 120&#xb0; C., and having an M/Mvalue of less than 2.5. The olefin-block copolymer is desirably generated by combining ethylene, C4 to C12 &#x3b1;-olefins, a single site catalyst, preferably a fluxional catalyst, and an activator. The elastomeric article may be an elastic hygiene garment, especially a garment comprising a waistband, stretch ear panels and/or belly bands.

Olefin-block copolymers and their use in elastomeric articles

Provided herein are various methods for forming alkylaromatic sulfonate compositions and blended alkylaromatic sulfonate compositions, and such compositions themselves. The methods of various embodiments include obtaining a C-Chydrocarbon mixture, optionally treating the mixture to concentrate the mixture in sulfonatable aromatics, and sulfonating the mixture to form the alkylaromatic sulfonates. The mixture or treated mixture may be blended with linear alkyl benzene (LAB) compositions and sulfonated, and/or the alkylaryl sulfonates may be blended with linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) compositions, to form the blended alkylaromatic sulfonates of some embodiments. These compositions and processes for making them may be tailored to serve a variety of end uses, such as detergents in cleaning solutions or for enhanced oil recovery operations, and/or as low foaming and/or hydrotropic additives in detergent formulations, and the like.
