An overcurrent fault detector using a High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) operated by a gate driver is disclosed. The overcurrent fault detector includes a band-pass filter and a control circuit. The band-pass filter is configured to receive gate-to-source voltage (VGS) signals of the HEMT and filter the VGS signals to generate a band-limited version of the VGS signals. The control circuit is configured to measure a value of the band-limited version of the VGS signals, determine if the value is greater than a threshold value, and generate a fault signal that disables the gate driver and terminates an overcurrent fault condition in response to determining that the value is greater than the threshold value.

Sensor-less overcurrent fault detection using high electron mobility transistors

According to an aspect of this disclosure, a circuit includes a voltage source and an output load, first and second resonant modules disposed between the voltage source and the output load, and first and second transformers. The circuit is further arranged such that the first transformer is disposed between the first resonant module and the output load, and the second transformer is disposed between the second resonant module and the output load. The circuit also includes a plurality of half-bridges coupled between the first and second resonant modules and the voltage source. The circuit further includes a voltage divider disposed between the voltage source and the plurality of half-bridges.

A device for load line regulation of a sigma convert is provided. The device comprises a sigma converter comprising an inductor inductor capacitor (LLC) circuit and a buck converter. The device also comprises control circuitry for the sigma converter. The control circuitry is configured to receive a plurality of electrical measurements associated with the sigma converter; determine, based on the plurality of electrical measurements, an adjusted electrical characteristic for load line regulation of the sigma converter; and provide, based on the adjusted electrical characteristic, gating signals to the buck converter to perform the load line regulation of the sigma converter.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a single-stage converter includes a rectifying circuit and a buck-boost circuit. The buck-boost circuit includes an inductor with a center tap configured to supply an output of the buck-boost circuit to the rectifying circuit. The buck-boost circuit also includes first and second interleaved arms arranged in parallel with a voltage input of the single-stage converter. The first and second interleaved arms are each coupled to the inductor and include a plurality of switches operable to control the output of the buck-boost circuit.

In at least one illustrative embodiment, a three-stage power converter includes a rectifier having an input to receive three-phase alternating-current (AC) and an output coupled to a first direct-current (DC) bus, a buck converter having an input coupled to the first DC bus and an output coupled to a second DC bus, and an LLC resonant converter having an input coupled to the second DC bus and an output to provide a DC charging current to a battery. The buck converter may be operable across a range of duty cycles to adjust a voltage level supplied to the second DC bus, and the LLC resonant converter may be operable in a plurality of modes to provide a plurality of discrete gain levels.

One exemplary embodiment is a salient pole rotor for an electric machine including one set of pole pairs including a first, second, and third pole pair; a field winding; a set of energy harvest windings, each winding mounted to each of the plurality of pole pairs and structured to receive a harmonic component of AC power from a stator; and a DC power supply structured to receive the harmonic component from the set of energy harvest windings, convert the harmonic component to DC power, and output the DC power to the field winding. The set of energy harvest windings are arranged in a first sequence on the first pole pair, a second sequence on the second pole pair, and a third sequence on the third pole pair, and each sequence is different.

A multi-layered conductor comprising one or more conductor layers of an electrically conductive material and one or more shielding layers of a soft magnetic material. The shielding layer can be coated onto the conductor layer and has a lower conductivity and a higher magnetic permeability than the electrically conductive material of conductor layers. The shielding layer can, at least when alternating current (AC) flows through the multi-layered conductor at relatively high frequencies, provide a separate power path for at least a portion of the high frequency AC current, as well as absorb at least a portion of the high frequency noises associated with that separated high frequency AC current. Additionally, the shielding layer can be separated from the conductor layer at an output end of the multi-layered conductor so that output ends of the shielding layer and conductor layer can be electrically connected to different electrical devices or components.

A unique electrical system includes a first electrical component and a second electrical component. A conductor electrically couples the first electrical component with the second electrical component. A sensor is constructed to sense an AC power flow in the conductor and output an AC signal proportional to the AC power flow. A band-pass filter is in electrical communication with the sensor and constructed to receive and filter the AC signal and to generate an AC voltage proportional on the AC signal. A controller is in electrical communication with the band-pass filter, and is operative to receive and sample the AC voltage. The controller is configured to execute program instructions to sum sequential AC voltage values received from the band-pass filter over a sample time period, and to determine whether an arc fault has occurred based on the summed AC voltage values.

Methods, systems, and computer readable media for managing the distribution of photovoltaic power in a multi-floor building are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes determining power requirements for each of a plurality of loads associated with a respective plurality of floors in a multi-floor building, wherein each of the plurality of floors includes a direct current (DC) distribution bus. The method further includes using a PV converter to supply a power output from a PV source to one or more of the plurality of loads via one or more respective DC distribution buses, wherein the power output is supplied to the one or more of the plurality of loads in an order such that each subsequent load is supplied at least a remaining portion of the power output after the power requirements of a previously supplied load is fully satisfied.

A hybrid alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) distribution system for multiple-floor buildings includes per-floor rectifiers for converting supply side AC to DC. Each rectifier is configured to supply a plurality of DC loads associated with one floor of a multiple-floor building. The system further includes per-floor DC busses, each of the DC busses being configured to distribute the DC to the DC loads its respective floor. The system further includes at least one AC bus for supplying AC power to AC loads in the building.

Hybrid alternating current (AC)/direct current (DC) distribution for multiple-floor buildings

A power generation system includes at least one generator having at least two sets of stator windings, an active rectifier comprising power cell based modular converters associated with each set of generator windings. Each set of windings is connected to an AC voltage side of the associated active rectifier, with each active rectifier having a positive DC voltage output and a negative DC voltage output. The DC voltage outputs of active rectifiers are connected to each other in series. A medium voltage DC (MVDC) collection network comprises positive pole cables and negative pole cables, wherein each positive pole cable is connected to the positive DC voltage output of a first active rectifier and each negative pole cable is connected to the negative DC voltage output of a last active rectifier. A substation receives the negative and positive pole cables of the MVDC collection network for further transformation and transmission.
