A radio system includes a feed network, an edge wavelength switching system (EWSS), a photodetector, and a broadband lens-based antenna subsystem. The feed network aggregates a plurality of unmodulated optical carriers and modulated optical carriers for delivery to an optical link. The EWSS receives the plurality of unmodulated optical carriers and modulated optical carriers from the optical link, and selects a first unmodulated carrier and a first modulated carrier as a first selected optical carrier pair. The photodetector receives the first selected carrier pair from the EWSS, and generates a first electrical signal from an optical beat of the first unmodulated carrier with the first modulated carrier. The broadband lens-based antenna subsystem receives the first electrical signal from the photodetector, propagates the received first electrical signal through a lens body, and outputs a first directional wireless beam signal containing signal data from the first modulated carrier.

Optically integrated antenna systems and methods

A method performed by a node of a quantum key distribution (QKD) network includes receiving, from a hub of the QKD network, a user-node pulse train of optical-pulse pairs, each of the optical-pulse pairs comprising a first pulse and a second pulse having an optical phase shift relative to the first pulse. The method further includes splitting the user-node pulse train into first and second pulse trains, calibrating an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer with the first pulse train, blocking the second pulse of each of the optical-pulse pairs of the second pulse train to generate a filtered pulse train, splitting the filtered pulse train into a timing pulse train and a pre-qubit pulse train, delaying the pre-qubit pulse train into a delayed pulse train, and encoding the delayed pulse train into a photonic-qubit pulse train and transmitting the photonic-qubit pulse train to the hub.

Quantum key distribution network with centralized optical pulse generation

A server device is provided for authenticating client devices on a communication network. The server device includes a transceiver configured for operable communication with at least one client of the communication network, and a processor including a memory configured to store computer-executable instructions. When executed by the processor, the instructions cause the server device to receive an authentication request from a client device, generate a seed for a first key for the client device if the client device authenticates, transmit the seed for the first key to the client device, receive a hash of the first key from the client device, and validate the first key based on the hash of the first key.

Systems and methods for advanced quantum-safe PKI credentials for authentications

A node for a quantum key distribution (QKD) network includes an optical input that receives an optical pulse from a hub of the QKD network and an optical splitter that splits the optical pulse into an optical timing pulse and a pre-qubit pulse. The node also includes a qubit encoder controllable to encode the pre-qubit pulse into a photonic qubit; a qubit trigger circuit that controls, based on the optical timing pulse, the qubit encoder while the pre-qubit pulse propagates through the qubit encoder; and an optical output that transmits the photonic qubit to the hub.

Systems and methods provide quantum secured internet transport. Quantum key distribution (QKD) is made universally available to existing Transport Layer Security (TLS) Internet services without requiring modification of existing applications. QKD keys may be prefetched and transferred to user devices at secure sites using QKD over an optical link (e.g., a continuous wave fiber or free-space optical link). A proxy QKD TLS tunnel client and a QKD TLS tunnel server are transparent to the user devices and select QKD keys for use with existing TLS client and TLS server services to form a QKD TLS tunnel between the user devices for secure communication. One-time-pad (OTP) encryption uses pre-shared QKD keys to provide secure OTP based encryption.

Quantum secured internet transport

A full duplex communication network includes an optical transmitter end having a first coherent optics transceiver, an optical receiver end having a second coherent optics transceiver, and an optical transport medium operably coupling the first coherent optics transceiver to the second coherent optics transceiver. The first coherent optics transceiver is configured to (i) transmit a downstream optical signal at a first wavelength, and (ii) simultaneously receive an upstream optical signal at a second wavelength. The second coherent optics transceiver is configured to (i) receive the downstream optical signal, and (ii) simultaneously transmit the upstream optical signal. The first wavelength has a first center frequency separated from a second center frequency of the second wavelength.

Systems and methods for full duplex coherent optics

An injection locked transmitter for an optical communication network includes a master seed laser source input substantially confined to a single longitudinal mode, an input data stream, and a laser injected modulator including at least one slave laser having a resonator frequency that is injection locked to a frequency of the single longitudinal mode of the master seed laser source. The laser injected modulator is configured to receive the master seed laser source input and the input data stream, and output a laser modulated data stream.

A first node of a network includes a quantum receiver, a classical transceiver, and an initial-key generator that cooperate with a second node of the network to receive an initial key via the quantum receiver. The first node includes a key-series generator that (i) decrypts, with the initial key, a first encrypted key of a series of encrypted keys to generate a first unencrypted key of a respective series of unencrypted keys and (ii) decrypts each subsequent encrypted key of the series of encrypted keys with a preceding unencrypted key of the series of unencrypted keys to generate a subsequent unencrypted key of the series of unencrypted keys. The first node includes one or both of a decryptor and an encryptor. The decryptor decrypts encrypted data using a last unencrypted key of the series of unencrypted keys. The encryptor encrypts unencrypted data using the last unencrypted key.

Encrypted data transmission in optical-and radio-access networks based on quantum key distribution

Methods, systems, and devices for quantum key distribution (QKD) in passive optical networks (PONs) are described. A PON may be a point-to-multipoint system and may include a central node in communication with multiple remote nodes. In some cases, each remote node may include a QKD transmitter configured to generate a quantum pulse indicating a quantum key, a synchronization pulse generator configured to generate a timing indication of the quantum pulse, and filter configured to output the quantum pulse and the timing indication to the central node via an optical component (e.g., an optical splitter, a cyclic arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) router). The central node may receive the timing indications and quantum pulses from multiple remote nodes. Thus, the central node and remote nodes may be configured to communicate data encrypted using quantum keys.

Quantum key distribution and management in passive optical networks

A full duplex communication network includes an optical transmitter end having a first coherent optics transceiver, an optical receiver end having a second coherent optics transceiver, and an optical transport medium operably coupling the first coherent optics transceiver to the second coherent optics transceiver. The first coherent optics transceiver is configured to simultaneously transmit a downstream optical signal and receive an upstream optical signal. The second coherent optics transceiver is configured to simultaneously receive the downstream optical signal from the first coherent optics transceiver and transmit the upstream optical signal first coherent optics transceiver. At least one of the downstream optical signal and the upstream optical signal includes at least one coherent optical carrier and at least one non-coherent optical carrier.

A measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) network includes a plurality of user nodes connected to untrusted relay node that performs Bell-state measurements on qubits transmitted by the user nodes. The relay node contains a calibration laser that serves as a wavelength reference for the user nodes. The output of the calibration laser is split into two wavelength-calibration signals, which are transmitted to a pair of user nodes via optical fiber. At each user node, a laser diode used to generate weak coherent pulses is injection-locked with the wavelength calibration-signal, thereby ensuring that the user nodes generate photonic qubits with the same wavelength. The embodiments may be implemented with any encoding scheme compatible with MDI-QKD, such as polarization encoding and time-bin phase-encoding. No auxiliary connections between the user nodes are needed, allowing the MDI-QKD network to be scaled up to many users.

Systems and methods for measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution

An optical network includes a transmitting portion configured to (i) encode an input digitized sequence of data samples into a quantized sequence of data samples having a first number of digits per sample, (ii) map the quantized sequence of data samples into a compressed sequence of data samples having a second number of digits per sample, the second number being lower than the first number, and (iii) modulate the compressed sequence of data samples and transmit the modulated sequence over a digital optical link. The optical network further includes a receiving portion configured to (i) receive and demodulate the modulated sequence from the digital optical link, (ii) map the demodulated sequence from the second number of digits per sample into a decompressed sequence having the first number of digits per sample, and (iii) decode the decompressed sequence.

System and methods for data compression and nonuniform quantizers

A baseband processing unit includes a baseband processor configured to receive a plurality of component carriers of a radio access technology wireless service, and a delta-sigma digitization interface configured to digitize at least one carrier signal of the plurality of component carriers into a digitized bit stream, for transport over a transport medium, by (i) oversampling the at least one carrier signal, (ii) quantizing the oversampled carrier signal into the digitized bit stream using two or fewer quantization bits.

Systems and methods for delta-sigma digitization

An analog signal processor includes a sampling unit configured to (i) filter, in the frequency domain, a received time domain analog signal into a low-frequency end of a corresponding frequency spectrum, (ii) sample the filtered analog signal at a frequency substantially higher than the low-frequency end, and (iii) spread quantization noise over an expanded Nyquist zone of the corresponding frequency spectrum. The processor further includes a noise shaping unit configured to shape the spread quantization noise out of the low-frequency end of the corresponding frequency spectrum such that the filtered analog signal and the shaped quantization noise are substantially separated in the frequency domain, and a quantization unit configured to apply delta-sigma modulation to the filtered analog signal using at least one quantization bit, and output a digitized bit stream that substantially follows the amplitude of the received time domain analog signal.

System and methods for efficient digitization in a communication network

An edge wavelength-switching system includes an optical switch and a wavelength selective switch. The optical switch includes a west hub-side port, an east hub-side port, a west local-side port, and an east local-side port. The wavelength selective switch includes (i) a multiplexed port optically coupled to the west local-side port and (ii) a bypass port optically coupled to the east local-side port, and (iii) a plurality of demultiplexed ports. An optical network includes a network hub including an M-by-Nwavelength-selective switch, N&#x3e;M&#x2265;1, a first network node, and a second network node. Each of the first and second network nodes includes a respective edge wavelength-switching system. The network hub, the first network node, and the second network node are optically coupled.
