A Short Message Service Center (SMSC) receives a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message transferred User Equipment (UE). The SIP message has a Private Access Network Information (PANI) header with geographic data for the UE and also has a Short Message Service (SMS) message from the UE. The SMSC determines when a destination code from the SMS message indicates an emergency SMS message. When the emergency SMS message is indicated, the SMSC transfers an emergency Short Message Peer-to-Peer (SMPP) message for delivery to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) gateway. The emergency SMPP message has the geographic data for the UE and also has the emergency SMS message. The PSAP gateway selects a PSAP for the UE based on the geographic data in the SMPP message and transfers the emergency SMS message to the selected PSAP.

Short message service (SMS) with geographic data for user equipment (UE)

The use of broadcast channels for television programming on a wireless telecommunications data network is optimized. Proxy servers at base stations receive more programming than can be broadcast by the base station. Programming then is queued for changes in broadcast content. Management servers coordinate the broadcasts across multiple sectors so that centralized control is possible. Management servers operate in conjunction with necessary gateways on the connectivity services network to route content to access service network. Quality of service (QoS) guarantees are actualized by centrally managing the broadcast of requested content from the proxy servers. Handoffs are possible from one area to another by coordinating the broadcasts across access service networks.

In systems and methods of managing push-to-talk registration of a wireless device, a network attachment request is received from a wireless device in a first geographic service area, a service plan identifier associated with the wireless device is received, and based on the service plan identifier a domain name node network address is provided to the wireless device. A network address of a push-to-talk application node associated with a second geographic service area is determined based on the domain name node network address. The wireless device is then registered in the first geographic service area with the push-to-talk application node associated with the second geographic service area.

Systems and methods of operating a communication system are provided. A network node of the first network can receive a request from a wireless device associated with the first network to establish a data communication session over a second network through an access node of the second network. A status of the access node of the second network can be determined based on an access node identifier. A location of the wireless device can be determined at the network node of the first network. A network condition of the first network can be determined based on the location of the wireless device. The request to establish the data communication session over the second network can be granted when the network conditions of the first network are less than a threshold and the access node of the second network does not have an approved roaming status.

Disclosed is a method and system for use of a trusted server such as an over-the-air provisioning server to facilitate mobile location determination. If a mobile location server (MLS) sends a location-determination message to a mobile station and does not receive a response back from the mobile station, there is a chance that the mobile station is not provisioned with a correct address of the MLS and that the mobile station therefore did not respond. To help jump start the location-determination process, the MLS may respond to that situation by instead causing a trusted server such as an over-the-air-service-provisioning (OTASP) server to send a location-determination message to the mobile station, triggering a response from the mobile station.

Method and system for use of a trusted server to facilitate location determination

Methods and systems are described for providing a presence service that is useful for mobile telecommunications devices. A plurality of outgoing presence updates are sent to a presence client. The system monitors the level of network traffic and determines whether the client is in a region of high network load, and if so, the system throttles the outgoing presence updates during the condition of high network load. The level of throttling may depend at least in part on the amount of time that has elapsed since the presence client began a presence session, and/or the amount of time that has elapsed since an incoming presence update was received from the presence client. In determining the latter amount of elapsed time, the system may consider only the amount of time elapsed since an incoming non-automatic presence update was received from the presence client.

Mobile network presence service with load-based notification throttling

Methods and systems are described for providing a presence service that is particularly useful for mobile telecommunications devices. A plurality of outgoing presence updates are sent to a presence client. The system monitors the level of network traffic and determines whether the client is in a region of high network load. If the client is in a region experiencing a condition of high network load, the system throttles the outgoing presence updates during the condition of high network load. The level of throttling may depend at least in part on the amount of time that has elapsed since the presence client began a presence session, and/or the amount of time that has elapsed since an incoming presence update was received from the presence client. In determining the latter amount of elapsed time, the system may consider only the amount of time elapsed since an incoming non-automatic presence update was received from the presence client. When presence updates are throttled, the may schedule presence updates such that at least a minimum delay period elapses between consecutive updates to a particular client.

Systems and methods for obtaining location information for a communication station in a first domain by a communication station in a second domain are provided. The communication station in the second domain embeds a location request message in a message formatted according to a first communication protocol, and transmits the message formatted according to the first communication protocol to a proxy server. The proxy server removes the embedded request message and forwards it to a location server, which is located in the first domain. The proxy server receives a location response message and embeds it in another message formatted according to the first communication protocol. The proxy server then transmits the another message formatted according to the first communication protocol to the communication station in the second domain, which can remove the embedded location response message.

Systems and methods of establishing group calls are provided. Contact index information is synchronized between a communication unit and a contact synchronization server. A group call request message, including index information for one or more contacts, is sent from a communication unit to a signaling server. The signaling server uses the index information to obtain communication unit addresses from the contact synchronization server.

Systems and methods of establishing group calls

Methods, media, and systems are provided for optimizing the use of broadcast channels for group communication streams on a wireless telecommunications data network. Transmission proxy servers associated with base stations are used to determine whether a broadcast channel or unicast channel is most efficient for transmission of a group communication stream. Transmission proxy servers examine factors such as number of users, movement, duration and bandwidth required to make the channel determination. A contact management server coordinates the authentication across multiple access networks in coordination with the transmission proxy servers. Delivery can be more flexible, higher service levels can be more easily guaranteed, and secure but seamless handoffs are possible utilizing the claimed embodiments.

Group communication through broadcast channels

Disclosed is a method and system for adjusting processing time for responding to a request for location of a mobile station. A mobile location server or other position-determining system sends a location query to the mobile station and determines if the mobile station possesses a fresh set of assistance data usable by the mobile station to acquire satellite-based positioning data. If the determination is that the mobile possesses fresh assistance data, then the system waits a first time period for the mobile station to respond to the query, otherwise the system waits a second time period greater than the first time period for the mobile station to respond. If the mobile station responds in time, the system returns in response to the request a specific indication of the mobile station's location; otherwise, the system returns a general location, such as a cell sector location for instance.
