Embodiments of this application provide a node handover method, in which a source donor node sends a handover request message to a target donor node, where the handover request message includes context information of an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node and context information of at least one terminal device. The source donor node receives a handover response message sent by the target donor node, where the handover response message includes an identifier of an accepted terminal device in the at least one terminal device and/or an identifier of a rejected terminal device in the at least one terminal device.

A communication method includes a first IAB node receives a first message from a CU of an IAB donor, where the first message indicates the first IAB node to be handed over from a first parent node to a second parent node, and the first message includes a first IP address of the first IAB node. The first IAB node determines first transport network layer association information between the first IAB node and the CU of the IAB donor based on the first IP address. The first IAB node updates control plane context information of an F1 interface by using the first transport network layer association information, where the F1 interface is an interface between the first IAB node and CU of the IAB donor. An IAB node communicates with a CU of an IAB donor by using a first IP address as soon as possible after handover is completed.

The method includes: An IAB donor determines first configuration information, where the first configuration information is used to indicate a first backhaul link BH RLC channel, and the first BH RLC channel is used to transmit a control protocol data unit PDU at a backhaul adaptation protocol BAP layer. The IAB donor sends the first configuration information to an IAB node. According to the foregoing procedure, the IAB donor indicates, by using the first configuration information, the IAB node to send the control PDU at the BAP layer through the first BH RLC channel, to implement bearer mapping when the IAB node needs to send the control PDU at the BAP layer.
