A gas-lift well includes a casing extending down a wellbore, production tubing extending within the casing, a gas system for inserting compressed gas into an annular space between the casing and the production tubing, at least one gas-lift input, and at least one fluid flow regime modifier. The at least one gas-lift input extends from the annular space, through the production tubing, and to an interior of the production tubing. The at least one fluid flow regime modifier is disposed within the production tubing and is at least partially within a fluid column of the production tubing, the at least one fluid flow regime modifier is configured to reduce fluid fallback and impart a turbulent flow regime to at least a portion of the fluid column.

Gas lift systems, flow regime modifiers, and related methods

A production well includes a casing and encapsulated tubing positioned within the casing. The encapsulated tubing includes a conductive sidewall defining a channel for an injection fluid. The production well further includes an insulative layer surrounding the conductive sidewall. The production well also includes a controller configured to regulate flow of an electrical current through the conductive sidewall. The production well further includes production tubing positioned within the casing and configured to channel a production fluid through the casing. The insulative layer is configured to inhibit transmission of the electrical current between the conductive sidewall and the production tubing. The production well also includes at least one sensor positioned within the casing to detect downhole conditions of the production well. The conductive sidewall is configured to conduct electrical current toward the at least one sensor.

Methods and systems for downhole sensing and communications in wells

A fluid intake for a system includes a support structure defining an interior space and configured for fluid to pass into the interior space. The system includes a pump for pumping fluid from a well including a well casing defining a passageway for the fluid to flow therethrough in a flow direction. The fluid includes liquid and gas. A porous member extends over a portion of the support structure. The fluid intake extends inside the passageway in the flow direction such that the porous member and the well casing define an annular space therebetween. The porous member defines pores for liquid to wick through. The interior space is in flow communication with the pores such that liquid wicking through the porous member passes into the interior space.

Fluid intake for an artificial lift system and method of operating such system

A hydrocarbon extractor (HE) evaluator system includes a central controller and an HE evaluator model that includes a hierarchical equipment model of heterogeneous HE type, subtype, and property, a plurality of rules arrangeable as a hierarchical equipment rule set, and as a hierarchical well feature rule set, a rules engine, the hierarchical well feature rule set formatted for a multi-factor comparison by the rules engine between heterogeneous HE types from disparate sources applied to the hierarchical equipment model. The rules engine configured to apply rules using class structure and one or more categories to an extracted portion of the hierarchical equipment model to generate results displayable to a user for determination of an HE type suitable for a particular well. A method for evaluating HE types and a non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions for a processor to perform the method are also disclosed.
