Disclosed is a method for preparing a 2,5-disubstituted furan compound. The 2,5-disubstituted furan compound is prepared in a simple, convenient and highly efficient way by reacting 2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride-7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene and/or furan with an acylating reagent and/or an alkylating reagent. The preparation method is simple and efficient, has a short process and less by-products, and the 2,5-disubstituted furan compound prepared by using the method has a high purity, and can satisfy the requirements for being used as a raw material for engineering plastics, such as high-performance polyesters, epoxy resins, polyamides, polyurethanes and the like, and as a chemical raw material and a pharmaceutical intermediate raw material.

The invention relates to a novel composition comprising at least one polyphthalamide reactively extruded with at least one other polyamide, a polyester, and a modifier. The composition can be further modified with fillers to add increased strength. Other additives such as colorants, flame retardants, and UV degradation inhibitors are also contemplated. This composition exhibits superior barrier to organic vapors, impact strength and heat distortion temperatures. Also disclosed are articles using this novel composition such as fuel tanks for gasoline engines used to power lawn mowers and garden machinery.

The invention relates to a flame retardant polycarbonate composition which is comprised of a polycarbonate, a phosphoric acid ester, a functionalized acrylic polymer, and an alkyl methacrylate-diene-vinyl aromatic terpolymer, wherein the polycarbonate is present in the composition in an amount of at least about 85 weight percent, wherein the phosphoric acid ester is present at a level which is within the range of about 1 weight percent to about 12 weight percent, wherein the functionalized acrylic polymer is present at a level which is within the range of about 0.5 weight percent to about 4.5 weight percent, and wherein the alkyl methacrylate-diene-vinyl aromatic terpolymer is present at a level which is within the range of about 0.5 weight percent to about 4.5 weight percent, with the proviso that the sum of the amount of the functionalized acrylic polymer and the alkyl methacrylate-diene-vinyl aromatic terpolymer present in the composition does not total more than 5 weight percent.
