Display structures and methods of manufacture of display structure including a display panel with a curved three-dimensional film contour are described. In an embodiment, a display panel includes display area with a main body area and a plurality of petals extending from the main body area. The petals are folded into a curved three-dimensional (3D) film contour, and are separated by corresponding trenches between petals. The trenches may be filled with various seam hiding materials to visually obscure the trenches.

Display structure for electronic devices

Methods, systems, and apparatus to reconfigure a computer are disclosed. An example electronic device includes at least one memory, instructions in the electronic device, and processor circuitry to execute instructions to analyze data corresponding to a first configuration of the electronic device to detect a change associated with the electronic device, the first configuration corresponding to a respective first user profile, determine a second configuration of the electronic device based on the detected change, and adjust a configuration of the electronic device from the first configuration to the second configuration.

Methods, systems, and apparatus to reconfigure a computer

Apparatus, systems, and methods for intelligent tuning of overclocking frequency are disclosed. An example apparatus includes trial control circuitry to execute an optimization model to select first values for overclocking parameters of a processor, the first values associated with a first trial, and perform benchmark testing of the processor when the processor is operating based on the first values; trial evaluation circuitry to calculate a first score for the first trial based on the benchmark testing; and model updating circuitry to perform a comparison of the first score to a second score, the second score associated with a second trial for second values for the overclocking parameters, the second values different than the first values; and select one of the first values or the second values to overclock the processor based on the comparison.

Apparatus, systems, and methods for intelligent tuning of overclocking frequency

An electronic device such as a head-mounted device may have a display that produces a display image. The head-mounted device may have an optical system that merges real-world images from real-world objects with display images. The optical system provides the real-world images and display images to an eye box for viewing by a user. The optical system may use time interleaving techniques and/or polarization effects to merge real-world and display images. Switchable devices such as polarization switches and tunable lenses may be controlled in synchronization with frames of display images. Geometrical phase lenses may be used that exhibit different lens powers to different polarizations of light.

An electronic device may have a display that provides image light to a waveguide. First and second liquid crystal lenses may be mounted to opposing surfaces of the waveguide. An coupler may couple the image light out of the waveguide through the first lens. The second lens may convey world light to the first lens. Control circuitry may control the first lens to apply a first optical power to the image light and the world light and may control the second lens to apply a second optical power to the world light that cancels out the first optical power. Each lens may include two layers of liquid crystal molecules having antiparallel pretilt angles. The pretilt angles and rubbing directions of the first lens may be antiparallel to corresponding pretilt angles and rubbing directions of the second lens about the waveguide.

Display systems with geometrical phase lenses

A display may include an optical film to promote sunglass-friendly viewing of the display. Displays may include linear polarizers. For example, a liquid crystal display may have a linear polarizer above a liquid crystal layer, whereas an organic light-emitting diode display may have a linear polarizer that forms a portion of a circular polarizer to reduce reflections in the display. Displays that emit linearly polarized light may not be compatible with polarized sunglasses. To ensure an optimal user experience for users wearing sunglasses, displays may include sunglass-friendly optical films. A sunglass-friendly optical film may be a film formed from a birefringent material such as a polymer or liquid crystal. The sunglass-friendly optical film may have an optical axis that is at a 45&#xb0; angle relative to the optical axis of the underlying linear polarizer. The sunglass-friendly optical film may be patterned to have reduced thickness regions.

Optical films for electronic device displays

A display may have a first stage such as a color liquid crystal display stage and a second stage such as a monochromatic liquid crystal display stage that are coupled in tandem so that light from a backlight passes through both stages. The pixel pitch of the second stage may be greater than the pixel pitch of the first stage to ease alignment tolerances and reduce image processing complexity. The first stage may be provided with straight black masking strips, whereas the second stage may be provided with angled zigzagging black masking strips. The angle of the zigzagging black masking strips and the ratio of the pixel pitch of the second stage to that of the first stage may be selected to maximize optical transmittance while minimizing Moire effects.

Electronic equipment with displays may be provided. A first display may be mounted in a first housing and a second display may be mounted in a second housing that is adjacent to the first housing. The first housing may rotate relative to the second housing about a hinge axis. The first housing may be a lid and the second housing may be a base housing that is coupled to the lid by a hinge. A first display may be mounted in the first housing and a second display may be mounted in the second housing. Polarizer layers and other optical layers in the displays may be configured to provide a viewer with the ability to view images on the displays while wearing vertically polarized sunglasses and to suppress reflections of light emitted by the first display off of the second display.

A display may have a color filter layer and a thin-film transistor layer. A liquid crystal layer may be located between the color filter layer and the thin-film transistor layer. The display may have an active area surrounded by an inactive area. The opaque border layer may contain first and second opaque layers in the inactive area. The first opaque layer may have an opening in the inactive area that is overlapped by an isolation layer. The second opaque layer may be located in the inactive area and may overlap the opening in the first opaque layer to block light in the inactive area. The isolation layer may be interposed between the first and second opaque layers and may prevent static charge from an electrostatic discharge event along the edge of the display from migrating to the active area through the opaque border in the inactive area.
