Aspects of the disclosure include an apparatus that has a first clock generator and a second clock generator. The first clock generator is configured to drive a first circuit, causing the first circuit to (i) receive a signal corresponding to an audio input, and (ii) determine whether an energy level of the signal exceeds a predetermined threshold. The second clock generator is activated when the first circuit determines that the energy level of the signal exceeds the predetermined threshold. The second clock generator is configured to drive a second circuit, causing the second circuit to determine whether the signal matches a predetermined pattern. A third circuit is activated when the second circuit determines that the signal matches the predetermined pattern.

Apparatus and method for activating circuits

Embodiments include a method comprising generating, based on receiving audio signals from a sound source and a noise source, (i) a first input signal and (ii) a second input signal; generating, based on the first input signal and the second input signal, an average signal; operating a first phase loop by phase shifting the first input signal to generate a first intermediate signal such that a sound component in the first intermediate signal is substantially phase aligned with a sound component in the average signal; operating a second phase loop by phase shifting the second input signal to generate a second intermediate signal such that a sound component in the second intermediate signal is substantially phase aligned with the sound component in the average signal; and generating, based on the first intermediate signal and the second intermediate signal, an output audio signal that comprises audio signals from the sound source.

Method and apparatus for tracking sound source movement for audio signal processing

A method includes determining a preprocessed audio signal by removing some noise from an input audio signal. Here, portions of the preprocessed audio signal that include speech are separated by portions of the preprocessed audio signal that include residual noise. Additionally, the method includes determining an amplified signal by suppressing the preprocessed audio signal over the portions that include residual noise, and maintaining the preprocessed audio signal over the portions that include speech.

Residual noise suppression

A system including first and second gain modules, an operator module, and a priori and posteriori modules. The first gain module applies a non-linear function to generate a gain signal based on an amplitude of a first speech signal and an estimated a priori variance of noise included in the first speech signal. The operator module generates an operator based on the gain signal and the estimated a priori variance of noise. The a priori module determines an a priori signal-to-noise ratio based on the operator. The posteriori module determines a posteriori signal-to-noise ratio based on the amplitude of the first speech signal and (ii) the estimated a priori variance of noise. The second gain module: determines a gain value based on the a priori signal-to-noise ratio and the a posteriori signal-to-noise ratio; and generates, based on the amplitude of the first speech signal and the gain value, a second speech signal that corresponds to an estimate of an amplitude of the first speech signal, where the second speech signal is substantially void of music noise.

Method and apparatus for eliminating music noise via a nonlinear attenuation/gain function

A method includes determining a first filtered signal based on an audio signal; determining a second filtered signal based on the audio signal; determining, based on the first filtered signal and the second filtered signal, a portion of the audio signal corresponding to a sharp noise; determining, based on the first filtered signal and the second filtered signal, a gain signal that, for the portion of the audio signal corresponding to the sharp noise, has a value that is smaller than a value of the gain signal for the remaining portion of the audio signal; and suppressing, based on the gain signal, the sharp noise from an amplifier input signal determined based on the audio signal.

Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for error correction. The method includes error-correction code (ECC) decoding a first code word of code words in a data block, determining erasures for a second code word of the code words in the data block based on corrections in the first code word by the ECC decoding, and ECC decoding the second code word with the erasures.

Method and apparatus for error correction

Systems and methods are provided for performing noise filtering of a received signal. A first antenna is configured to capture a first signal. A second antenna is configured to capture a second signal, desired signal arrives at the two antennas at about the same time, where noise received from directions other than the expected signal direction is received at the first antenna and the second antenna at different times. A signal processor is configured to generate a averaged signal based on the first signal and the second signal, subtract the averaged signal from the first signal to generate a noise indicating signal, perform a phase adjustment on the averaged signal based on the noise indicating signal, and subtract the phase adjusted signal from the first signal to adjust the noise indicating signal. The noise indicating signal is filtered and then subtracted from the averaged signal to generate a filtered output signal.

Systems and methods for sidelobe cancellation

Devices, methods, and other embodiments associated with adjusting a defect threshold are described. In one embodiment, a method includes determining, using a defect threshold, when a read channel has read data from a defective portion of a storage medium. The defect threshold is adjusted based, at least in part, on a gain value and a delayed gain value of a gain loop of the read channel.

Systems and methods are provided for performing noise filtering of a received signal. A first signal is received via a first receiver. A second signal is received via a second receiver. A combined signal based on the first and second signals is generated. The combined signal is processed to generate an adjusted combined signal. A phase adjustment is performed on the adjusted combined signal based on amplitude values of the adjusted combined signal during a period of time and an amplitude value of the first signal during the period of time. The phase-adjusted signal is subtracted from the first signal to generate a noise reference signal. The noise reference signal is subtracted from the combined signal to generate a filtered output signal.

Method and apparatus for filtering noise in a signal received by a wireless receiver

Aspects of the disclosure provide a circuit that includes a decoder, an error checking module, and a controller. The decoder is configured to receive codewords, and decode the codewords based on an error correcting code. The error checking module is configured to error-check sectors using an error detecting code in the sectors. Each sector is formed of a plurality of decoded codewords. The controller is configured to store in a memory, when the error checking fails for at least one sector, the decoded codewords and corresponding flags indicative of pass or fail of the decoding of the codewords.

Method and apparatus for reading a disc

A decoder including a decode module, a matrix module, and a marking module. The decode module receives data and performs a first decoding iteration to decode the data. The first decoding iteration includes generating a first matrix having a first byte. The matrix module generates a second matrix based on the first matrix. The second matrix includes the first and second bytes. The second byte is adjacent and sequentially prior or subsequent to the first byte. The marking module: determines whether the first byte has been correctly decoded; based on determining whether the first byte has been correctly decoded, determines a status of the second byte; and based on the status of the second byte, marks the first byte as an erasure. The decode module, based on the second byte being marked as an erasure, corrects the second byte during the second decoding iteration.

Aspects of the disclosure provide a sync mark detector. The sync mark detector includes a first unit configured to decay over time a value indicating a length of a bit format, a second unit configured to compare the decayed value with a detected length of the bit format to determine a new length, and a third unit configured to detect a sync mark based on the detected length and the new length.

Timing loop with large pull-in range

Aspects of the disclosure provide a signal processing circuit that has fast response time to sudden profile changes in an electrical signal. The signal processing circuit includes a processing path configured to process an electrical signal that is generated in response to reading data on a storage medium, and a feed-forward correction module. The feed-forward correction module is configured to detect a profile variation based the electrical signal in a time window, and correct the electrical signal in the time window based on the detected profile variation.

Method and apparatus for offset and gain correction

A timing jitter measurement circuit for measuring timing jitter in the digital domain may use an interpolator bank to over-sample a signal from a media reader, a zero crossing estimator to estimate a zero crossing moment in the output of the interpolator bank and a time interval analyzer (TIA) to calculate the timing jitter as the deviation of the estimated zero crossing moment from an expected zero crossing moment in a clock signal. The timing jitter measurement circuit may be integrated into digital circuitry since it avoids using analog devices. Consequently, it may simplify the chip design, lower power consumption and save space.
