A system and method are disclosed for overheight vehicle impact avoidance and incident detection. A detection subsystem of the system determines whether an incoming vehicle is clear to pass, depending at least on its height. The detection subsystem relies on distance sensors located along the freeway to detect the highest point of the vehicle and outputs an indication of whether the vehicle can pass. A warning subsystem receives the indication that a vehicle is overheight and provides a warning indication to the driver about the vehicle's inability to pass an upcoming structure. The warning subsystem may also perform a variety of other tasks, such as, for example, logging a variety of information about the vehicle and the incident, sending data about the incident locally to a central command, and generating reports.

Overheight vehicles impact avoidance and incident detection system

The disclosure provides a system and method for a programmable medical wire that can be preprogrammed, and controlled and reshaped upon command. The system can include a power supply, a controller, and a multilayered wire assembly. The wire assembly includes a core conductor, actuator conductors coupled to the core conductor, selective conductors formed adjacent the core conductor and the actuator conductors, and a protective biocompatible shield around the layers. The selective conductors can be energized to activate the actuator conductors and cause the actuator conductors to bend or twist in a preprogrammed manner. By selectively controlling the direction of movement of the actuator conductors, the wire assembly can be remotely guided through body passageways to the target. Auxiliary equipment such as sensors, micro cameras, detectors, cutters, and other equipment can also be coupled to the wire assembly, and controlled and communicated with through one or more of the selective conductors.

Programmable medical wire system and method

Various examples of methods and systems are provided for increasing productivity of one or more photosynthetic cultures via self-powered energy output systems. In one example, a system includes a waterproof casing and an energy output module enclosed within the waterproof casing. The waterproof casing is configured to be neutrally buoyant in an enclosure comprising the one or more photosynthetic cultures. In another example, a method includes placing a self-powered energy output system within an enclosure, the self-powered energy output system being neutrally buoyant within the enclosure. The method further includes causing turbulence within the enclosure, and the self-powered energy output system harvests energy to power the self-powered energy output system via the turbulence within the enclosure.

Self-powered lights for photosynthetic cultures

Methods and apparatus are disclosed relating to the stimulating of tissue including nerve tissue based on combinations of capacitors and resistors. Application and removal of voltage to an electrical circuit is taught as part of a method of creating voltage waveforms for nerve and other tissue with such waveforms creating neural signals. The electrical apparatus taught may, include a first electrical node grounded through a first resistor; a second electrical node grounded through a second resistor; a first capacitor connected to both the first electrical node and the second electrical node; a second capacitor separating the second electrical node from a biological grounding point and direct current sources connected to the two nodes.

Neural stimulator

An electro-acupuncture (EA) system and method for performing EA on a patient are provided. The EA system comprises a wearable neurostimulator device, at least a first pair of electrically-conductive acupuncture needles and a system controller. The wearable neurostimulator device comprises a casing, an EA circuit mechanically coupled to the casing, and an attachment device mechanically coupled to the casing and adapted to removably secure the wearable neurostimulator device to the patient. The first pair of electrically-conductive acupuncture needles is mechanically coupled to the casing and electrically coupled to the EA circuit. The system controller is in communication with the EA circuit of the wearable neurostimulator device via a communication link and controls the EA circuit to cause the EA circuit to output an output voltage selected by the system controller at a frequency selected by the system controller.

Provided are embodiments of a position-adaptive lighting system comprising a pantilt adjustable housing enclosing a digital imaging system and a lens module operably connected to a computer-based digital control unit, a lamp, and a position indicator detectable by the digital camera system and the computer-based digital control unit. The position-adaptive lighting system can adjustably direct a light beam to provide illumination of an object to which the position indicator is attached. The system is advantageous for providing a directed light to a surgical site and accommodate the movement of the position indicator on a surgeons hand or instrument.

Various examples of methods and systems are provided for increasing productivity of one or more photosynthetic cultures via self-powered light systems. In one example, a system includes a waterproof casing and a light module enclosed within the waterproof casing. The waterproof casing is configured to be neutrally buoyant in a culture tank comprising the one or more photosynthetic cultures. In another example, a method includes placing a self-powered light system within a culture tank, the self-powered light system being neutrally buoyant within the culture tank. The method further includes causing turbulence of water within the culture tank, and the self-powered light system harvests energy to power a light of the self-powered light system via the turbulence of the water within the culture tank.

A sensing material for use in a sensor is disclosed. Such a sensing material includes a polymer base and a piezoresistive nanocomposite embedded into the polymer base in a continuous pattern. The nanocomposite comprises a polymer matrix and a plurality of conductive nanofillers suspended in the matrix. The conductive nanofillers may be one or a combination of nanotubes, nanowires, particles and flakes. The density of the plurality of nanofillers is such that the nanocomposite exhibits conductivity suitable for electronic and sensor applications.

Apparatus and method for nanocomposite sensors

Disclosed herein is a fully-integrated, disposable biochip for point-of-care testing of clinically relevant parameters. Specifically, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the biochip is designed for POCT (point-of-care-testing) of an array of metabolic parameters including partial pressure of oxygen, Glucose, and Lactate concentration from venous blood samples. The biochip is fabricated on a low-cost plastic substrate using mass manufacturing compatible fabrication processes. Furthermore, the biochip contains a fully-integrated metallic micro-needle for blood sampling. The biochip also uses smart passive microfluidics in conjunction with low-power functional on-chip pressure generators for microfluidic sequencing. The design, configuration, assembly and operation of the biochip are ideally suited for a disposable biochip specifically targeted towards POCT applications.
