A display substrate includes a base substrate, a high reflective layer, a metal light reflective layer and a low reflective layer. The high reflective layer is on the base substrate, and includes a high refractive layer and a low refractive layer which alternate with each other. The high refractive layer has a first refractive index, and the low refractive layer has a second refractive index smaller than the first refractive index. The metal light reflective layer is between the high reflective layer and the low reflective layer, and reflects a light. The low reflective layer comprises a light absorbing layer which absorbs a light, and at least one insulating layer. Accordingly, a light utilizing efficiency and a display quality may be increased.

In a method for manufacturing a nanoparticle, a precursor (e.g., transition metal complex) mixed with polyethylene glycol (PEG) is thermally decomposed. A nanoparticle is formed from the thermal decomposition. PEG is cost effective and less toxic than chemicals that are conventionally used for nanoparticle production, so that costs for manufacturing the nanoparticle may be decreased. Further, PEG may be reused to produce more nanoparticles.

The display substrate includes a base substrate, a micro shutter, a first driving electrode, a second driving electrode and a plurality of anchors. The micro shutter is disposed on the base substrate, and includes a plurality of opening parts and a blocking part. The blocking part includes at least two trench structures and the blocking part is disposed between an adjacent pair of the opening parts. The first driving electrode is connected to a first side of the micro shutter. The second driving electrode is connected to a second side of the micro shutter opposite to the first side of the micro shutter. The plurality of anchors fixes the first and second driving electrodes and the micro shutter on the base substrate.

A liquid crystal display includes, among others, a light diffusion layer comprising a color conversion media layer and a non-conversion layer arranged on the second substrate and a backlight assembly to supply light to the first substrate and the second substrate. The backlight assembly supplies various wavelengths of lights, including blue light or UV ray. The blue rights through the liquid crystal layer enters the color conversion media layers and may generates red lights and green lights. In this case, blue lights go through non-conversion layer and diffuse and scatter out blue lights. The UV rays through the liquid crystal layer enters the color conversion media layers and may generates red light, green lights and blue lights.

An optical member includes a first liquid crystal assembly and a second liquid crystal assembly. The first liquid crystal assembly has a liquid crystal layer aligned in a first direction. Light polarized in the first direction is reflected from the first liquid crystal assembly. The second liquid crystal assembly is positioned on the first liquid crystal assembly. The second liquid crystal assembly has a liquid crystal layer aligned in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction. Light polarized in the second direction is reflected from the second liquid crystal assembly. Therefore, an image display quality is improved.

A flat-type fluorescent lamp includes a body having a plurality of discharge spaces, an electrode part disposed inside the body and crossing each of the discharge spaces and a light generating part generating a visible light by using the emitted electron. The electrode part includes an electron-transporting electrode transporting electrons from an exterior and an electron-emitting electrode on the transporting electrode to activate emission of the electrons to the discharge spaces. The flat-type fluorescent lamp has high brightness and low power consumption.

An exemplary embodiment of a plate-type fluorescent lamp and a display device having the same includes an upper glass substrate; a lower glass substrate adhering opposite to the upper glass substrate; electrodes formed on external surfaces of the upper glass substrate and the lower glass substrate; and a dielectric layer formed between one of the upper and lower glass substrates and the electrodes. A surface light source device may include a first substrate and a second substrate having a plurality of space-dividing portions to divide an inner space between the first and second substrates into a plurality of discharge regions. First and second electrodes may be formed on an outer face of the first substrate or the second substrate, and the first and second electrodes have a plurality of openings corresponding to the space-dividing portions. The openings have a first opening width along a longitudinal direction of the space-dividing portions, which is smaller than a line width of the first and second electrodes.
