A liquid crystal display panel including several first electrode portions, several second electrode portions, and a smectic liquid crystal layer is provided. The first electrode portions and the second electrode portions are disposed on a first substrate. When an AC voltage is applied on the first electrode portions and the second electrode portions, the direction of a horizontal electrical field formed between each first electrode portion and the adjacent second electrode portion is parallel to the surface of the first substrate. The smectic liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first substrate and a second substrate. During the phase change of a liquid crystal molecule of the smectic liquid crystal layer, the horizontal electrical field generated by applying the AC voltage on the first electrode portions and the second electrode portions facilitates the alignment of the liquid crystal molecule of the smectic liquid crystal layer.

Liquid crystal display panel and method for manufacturing thereof and liquid crystal display incorporating the same

This object aims to provide a liquid crystal display panel with good in viewing angle characteristic, and capable of carrying out a high brightness display. The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate having at least one pixel unit and at least one first orienting structure, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sealed between the first and second substrates and having negative dielectric anisotropy. The pixel unit includes a pixel electrode that is located in the display area, while the first orienting structure is located outside the display area. In addition, the liquid crystal layer contains an optical rotation material, and some of the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer are inclined toward the internal part or the external part of the pixel unit by the first orienting structure.

A liquid crystal display with transmissive region and reflective region is provided. The display comprises an upper substrate and a lower substrate, which is settled in parallel with the upper substrate. A reflective layer is located on the reflective region of the lower substrate and an insulation layer covers the reflective layer and the lower substrate. Positive and negative driving electrodes are chiastically settled on the insulation layer. A first alignment film is positioned on the inner surface of the upper substrate, and the alignments of the first alignment film on the transmissive region and reflective region are different. A second alignment film covers the insulation layer, the positive and negative electrodes. A liquid crystal layer is located between the first alignment film and the second alignment film.

An LCD panel including a first substrate, a second substrate and a smectic liquid crystal layer is disclosed. The first substrate includes a first electrode, a second electrode and a first horizontal alignment film. The first electrode has plural first portions. The second electrode has plural second portions. The first portions are spaced by the second portions. The electrical field directions formed between the first portions and the second portions are perpendicular to the surface of the first substrate. The electrical field direction on each first portion is opposite to that on each second portion. The first horizontal alignment film covers the first and the second electrodes. The second substrate includes a second horizontal alignment film. The horizontal rubbing direction of the first horizontal alignment film is parallel to that of the second horizontal alignment film. The smectic liquid crystal layer is sealed between the first and the second substrates.

A transflective liquid crystal panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a first polarizer disposed on the first substrate, a second polarizer disposed on the second substrate having a transmission axis perpendicular to that of the first polarizer and a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the substrates. The polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer includes a plurality of liquid crystal molecules and at least one polymer network. When a voltage difference between the substrates is equal to 0V, the liquid crystal molecules do not reflect incident light beams and are not pervious to incident light beams. When the voltage difference between the substrates is not equal to 0V, the crystal molecules reflect incident light beams and are pervious to incident light beams.

Transflective liquid crystal panel and method of making the same

A reflecting apparatus for a backlight module of a plane display is disclosed. The backlight module includes a light guide distal from the reflecting apparatus, and a plurality of diffusers. The apparatus comprises a light source, a reflector, and two substantially parallel sets of partially overlapped light deflectors wherein a gap exists between either two adjacent light deflectors of the same set or one light deflector and the reflector. A portion of emitted light is directed to the light guide after being reflected from the reflector. The remaining portion of light is directed to the light guide either after it has been deflected by the light deflectors or deflected by the light deflectors prior to being reflected by the reflector. Parallel light received at the light guide is deflected to the plane display as a backlight source of the plane display after passing the diffusers.

A device for enhancing the linear polarization intensity of light which passes through a polarizer is provided, which comprises: a prepolarizer receiving incident natural light and splitting the natural light into a plurality of polarized light beams with different polarization directions, changing the polarization direction of the light beams, thereby enhancing the light intensity of a particular polarization direction; and a polarizer having polarization direction the same as that of the prepolarizer, receiving the light emitted from the prepolarizer, and then converting the light into a linearly polarized light.
