A rechargeable battery module that effectively imparts a curvature using a rechargeable battery formed as a pin-shaped rechargeable battery with a very small diameter is provided. The rechargeable battery module includes a plurality of rechargeable batteries arranged in parallel, wherein each rechargeable battery comprises a case and terminals that extend from respective ends of the case along a length direction of the case. The module includes a plurality of caps, wherein each cap is coupled to an end of a rechargeable battery of the plurality of rechargeable batteries and is electrically connected to one of the terminals of the rechargeable battery. The module also includes a connector on each cap connecting adjacent caps coupled to corresponding rechargeable batteries. The adjacent caps are moveable relative to the connector such that a curvature between the corresponding rechargeable batteries changes in a direction crossing the length direction.

The rechargeable battery includes: an electrode assembly formed by winding a second electrode around an external circumference of a first electrode disposed at a center thereof by interposing a separator; a case to receive the electrode assembly and an electrolyte solution therein and electrically connected to the second electrode; a terminal electrically connected to the first electrode and drawn outside of the case; and a gasket disposed between the terminal and an opening of the case to close the opening of the case.

The positive active material includes a core including a lithium nickel composite oxide and a coating layer formed on the core. The coating layer improves structural stability of the positive active material. Accordingly, lifespan properties of a lithium battery including the positive active material may be improved.

A rechargeable lithium battery includes a separator between a positive electrode and a negative electrode. The positive electrode has a positive electrode coating region and a positive electrode uncoated region. A positive active material is coated to a positive electrode current collector in the positive electrode coating region, and the positive active material is not coated in the positive electrode uncoated region. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode coating region and a negative uncoated region. A negative active material is coated to a negative electrode current collector in the negative electrode coating region, and the negative active material is not coated and a lithium source is in the negative uncoated region. The negative electrode coating region includes an active region corresponding to the positive electrode coating region. The lithium source is at the negative electrode and separated from an end of the active region by a predetermined interval.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly having first and second electrodes at opposite sides of a separator and wound about an axis; a first terminal coupled to the first electrode through a first tab; a second terminal coupled to the second electrode through a second tab; a case accommodating the electrode assembly and including first and second openings at its opposite ends; a first gasket between the first terminal and the first opening, the first gasket sealing the first opening and allowing the first terminal to protrude outside of the case; and a second gasket between the second terminal and the second opening, the second gasket sealing the second opening and allowing the second terminal to protrude outside of the case. The case may further include a fixing portion at its inner side that protrudes toward the electrode assembly.

An electrode having a three-dimensional pore network structure including a fibrous pore channel is disclosed. A lithium battery including the electrode and a method of manufacturing the electrode are also disclosed. The three-dimensional pore network structure formed in the electrode allows for improved mobility of lithium ions in the electrode. Therefore, a lithium battery including the electrode may have improved output characteristics.
