An apparatus is provided for channel encoding in a communication system using an LDPC code. The apparatus includes at least one processor configured to encode input bits using a Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) code, shorten one or more bits of the encoded input bits according to a number of bit groups to be shortened and an order among a plurality of orders according to which the bit groups are shortened, wherein the number of bit groups to be shortened is based on a number of bits to be shortened which is based on a number of the encoded input bits, encode information bits including the encoded input bits and the shortened one or more bits, using an LDPC code to generate parity bits, and puncture one or more bits in the parity bits based on a puncturing parameter among puncturing parameters; and a transmitter configured to transmit a signal that is generated from the encoded information bits based on the punctured one or more bits. The plurality of orders are based on the puncturing parameters and include a first order and a second order that is different from the first order.

Method and apparatus for channel encoding and decoding in a communication system using a low-density parity check code

A method is provided for channel encoding in a communication system using an LDPC code. The method includes encoding input bits using a BCH code, shortening bits of the encoded input bits according to a number of bit groups to be shortened and an order among a plurality of orders according to which the bit groups are shortened, wherein the number of bit groups to be shortened is based on a number of bits to be shortened, which is based on a number of the encoded input bits, encoding information bits including the encoded input bits and the shortened one or more bits, using an LDPC code to generate parity bits, puncturing bits in the parity bits based on a puncturing parameter among puncturing parameters, and transmitting a signal generated from the encoded information bits based on the punctured bits. The plurality of orders being based on the puncturing parameters and including first and second orders.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for transmitting signaling information by a transmitting apparatus in a broadcasting system. A controller generates a codeword by encoding information bits of the signaling information. The codeword includes the information bits and parity bits. The controller punctures one or more of the parity bits to generate a punctured codeword. The controller generates a plurality of frames. The plurality of frames include a first frame including at least a part of the punctured codeword and a second frame including at least one additional parity bit for the signaling information. A transmitter transmits the plurality of frames. The at least a part of the punctured codeword is included in a preamble part of the first frame and the at least one additional parity bit is included in a preamble part of the second frame.

Method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving data in a communication system

A method is provided for channel encoding in a communication system using a Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) code. The method includes grouping information bits into a plurality of groups, determining an order of the plurality of groups to be shortened, according to a code rate, determining a length of information bits to be obtained by shortening the plurality of groups, shortening the plurality of groups on a group basis in the determined order, based on the determined length of the information bits, and LDPC-encoding shortened information bits.

The parity bits are interleaved according to a predetermined order. One or more of the interleaved parity bits are punctured to generate a punctured codeword. A method is provided for channel encoding in a communication system using a Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) code. The method includes grouping information bits into a plurality of groups; determining an order of the plurality of groups to be shortened, based on whether a specific region in a frame is to be LDPC-encoded, where the specific region has a different ratio of a number of bits to be shortened to a number of bits to be punctured; determining a length of an information word to be obtained by shortening the plurality of groups; shortening the plurality of groups on a group basis in the determined order based on the determined length of the information word; and LDPC-encoding a shortened information word.

It is determined whether a transport packet is the variable-length transport packet. Apparatus and method for supporting variable length of transport packet in an audio and video communication system

An apparatus and method are provided for indicating an error of a transport packet in an audio and video communication system. The method includes receiving a frame including a transport packet, attempting Forward Error Correction (FEC) on the frame, and setting a value of an error indicating field in the transport packet according to a result of the FEC. The error indicating field includes at least one of a first flag indicating a presence or absence of an error in the transport packet, a second flag indicating a success or failure of the FEC, and a third flag indicating detection or non-detection of a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC).

A digital broadcasting system and method, where the digital broadcasting system includes: a transmission stream generator multiplexing a normal stream and a turbo stream to generate a dual transmission stream; a transmitter inserting an supplementary reference signal (SRS) into the dual transmission stream, processing the turbo stream to reconstitute the dual transmission stream, and outputting the reconstituted dual transmission stream; and a receiver receiving the reconstituted dual transmission stream, separately turbo decoding the turbo stream, inserting the turbo decode turbo stream into the dual transmission stream, and decoding the dual transmission stream into which the turbo decoded turbo stream has been inserted, to restore normal stream data and turbo stream data. Thus, reception sensitivity of a digital broadcasting signal can be efficiently improved.
