A method and chipset for tracking a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) within the constraints of an indoor facility. The method includes receiving assistance information on the GNSS on a mobile communication system; and sorting orbiting satellites within the GNSS by elevation angles. Additionally, lower elevation satellites are correlated within the GNSS prior to correlating higher elevation satellites.

Method and apparatus for tracking a global navigation satellite system within the constraints of an indoor facility

A system () that determines exposure based on local conditions is disclosed. The system can include a sensor () configured to sense local conditions local to a user of the system, a sensor local wireless transmitter () coupled to the sensor, and an electronic device (). The electronic device can include a controller () configured to control operations of the electronic device, a device local wireless transceiver () coupled to the controller and wirelessly coupled to the sensor local wireless transmitter, a network interface coupled () to a wide area network and coupled to the controller, the network interface configured to obtain local environmental conditions, and an exposure module () coupled to the controller. The exposure module can determine exposure to an environmental element based at least on the local conditions sensed by the sensor and the local environmental conditions obtained by the network interface.

Disclosed is a wireless communication device capable of being positioned in a wearable position adjacent a user's head. The wireless communication device may include a housing and an arcuate earmount coupled to the housing. The earmount may be configured so that it includes an overhanging portion and a hinge portion, the hinge portion electrically and mechanically coupling the earmount to the housing. A proximity sensor can be positioned on the overhanging portion and configured to detect proximity of a user's skin behind the user's ear. The sensor location for earmounted devices can provide that the sensor may be trapped between the user's ear auricle and the user's head as the earmount sits down on the top portion of the ear, which may result in accurate sensing activation. The device may be further configured to, for example, change a state based on whether the proximity sensor detects proximity.

Earmounted electronic device and method

A wireless communication device for minimizing electromagnetic interference with hearing aid devices. The wireless communication device comprises a lower housing () and an upper housing () adjacent to the lower housing. The lower housing () supports a wireless transceiver () capable of producing an electromagnetic field, and the upper housing includes an ear piece (). For one embodiment the upper housing () and all components supported by the upper housing consist of non-electromagnetic conductive material. For other embodiments, all electromagnetic conductive components of the upper housing () are restricted to an area adjacent to an ear piece () of the upper housing.

Wireless communication device having electromagnetic compatibility for hearing aid devices

A unique method and apparatus modifies the load impedance at the output of a power amplifier by varying a voltage variable capacitor (VVC) (310) to maximize the efficiency of the power amplifier (304). A comparator (509) generates amplifier control signal (211) based upon a detected power output signal (216) and a reference signal. In addition to providing power control, the control signal is also coupled to a VVC circuit (506) to control the output impedance of the power amplifier. In an alternate embodiment, a separate VVC control signal (527) based upon a comparison of the power control signal and the battery voltage is coupled to a VVC. In another alternate embodiment, a second VVC can be coupled in parallel to the first VVC. The second VVC is preferably controlled by a signal (805) based upon the current in the power amplifier. Finally, an alternate embodiment incorporates a VVC circuit (506) at the input of the power amplifier to compensate for variations in input impedance to improve other power amplifier parameters such as IM, gain, output power and noise level.

Method and apparatus for amplifying a signal

A portable radio transceiver (100) includes a transmitter (101) and a receiver (103) operating at different respective frequencies. The transmitter (101) is capable of producing an undesired signal (121) including a frequency substantially equal to the receiver operating frequency (107). A first antenna (102) is coupled to the transmitter (101). A second antenna (104) is coupled to the receiver (103) and electrically isolated (122) from the first antenna (102) by a predetermined degree such that the undesired signal (121) received by the second antenna (104) is attenuated by the predetermined degree of electrical isolation (122). An optional filter (112), coupled to an input terminal of an amplifier (113) in the transmitter (101), is adapted to attenuate the undesired signal (121) such that the undesired signal (121) received by the second antenna (104) is further attenuated. An optional directional attenuator (115), coupled between the amplifier (113) and the first antenna (102), is adapted to attenuate an interfering signal (123) received by the first antenna (102) such that the undesired signal (121) received by the second antenna (104) is further attenuated.

A retractable antenna assembly provides a substantially matched antenna impedance to a matching circuit (712) of a radiotelephone (200) whether the retractable antenna assembly is in the extended position or the retracted position. In one embodiment parts (304, 312) of a capacitor (714) are integrally formed on an upper portion of the retractable antenna assembly (206) such that when in the retracted position the capacitor (714) contributes to the overall antenna impedance. In another embodiment a capacitor (1302) is integrally formed on the lower portion of the retractable antenna assembly (900).

Antenna assembly for a wireless-communication device

A resistor network bias circuit (24) and method is suitable for use in monolithic circuits. The method involves selecting resistors set a quiescent current for a two-stage power amplifier. The bias circuit (24) offsets the gate voltage for a first transistor (14) and a second N-channel depletion mode MESFET transistor (22) to maintain substantially constant drain current for the power amplifier over a range of threshold voltages. Selectable metal links (33-83) serially connected to resistors (30-80) provide parallel resistor combinations (36-86) for setting the quiescent currents of transistors (14 and 22).

A wireless communication device (20) provides a matching state between a radio circuit (28) and an antenna assembly (26) in both its retracted and extended positions, and does so with an elegant design that increases reliability and manufacturability by reducing the number and complexity of components and moving mechanical parts. A matching circuit (30), which is reconfigured according to a switch (32) that is responsive to the antenna's position, provides the matching states.

A wireless communication device (20) provides a matching state between a radio circuit (28) and an antenna assembly (26) in both its retracted and extended positions, and does so with an elegant design that increases reliability and manufacturability by reducing the number and complexity of components and moving mechanical parts. A matching circuit (30), which is reconfigured according to a switch (32) that is responsive to the antenna's position, provides the matching states. Furthermore, the switch (32) can be integrally formed as part of a feed terminal (36), the feed terminal (36) and a ground terminal (38) can hold the antenna in position, and the ground terminal (38) can hold a guiding tube (52).

A single-block ceramic filter (102) is coupled to two antennas (142 and 144) for providing both antenna duplexing and antenna-switched diversity in a duplex radio transceiver (100). One antenna (142) is coupled by the filter (102) to a transmitter (132), and both antennas (142 and 144) are switchably coupled by the filter (102) to a receiver (130) by diversity control circuitry (101) in response to a diversity control signal (137). A microcomputer (134) in the transceiver (100) is coupled to the receiver (130) for monitoring the received signal strength (135). When the received signal strength (135) drops in level indicating that the signal being received on one of the antennas (142 or 144) has become degraded due to fading or other interference, the microcomputer (134) changes the binary state of the diversity control signal (137) for switching the receiver (130) to the other one of the antennas (142 or 144 ).

A dielectric block filter assembly which is surface-mounted upon a circuit board. The circuit board includes an opening formed to extend therethrough, and parallel-extending projecting members, formed of a portion of the printed circuit board, which extend into the opening formed to extend through the circuit board. The dielectric block filter includes a bottom mounting surface having notches corresponding to the projecting members. Each notch includes a seating surface for seating against corresponding ones of the projecting members in mated engagement therewith.

A filter assembly (100) includes a ceramic block filter (102) and shielding bracket (132) which surface mounts to a printed circuit board (152) for interconnecting to radio frequency devices, such as a radio transceiver. The bracket (132) is soldered to the filter (102) and includes two openings (136 and 137) for exposing input/output electrodes (106 and 107) of the filter. The printed circuit board (152) includes an opening (162) shaped to accept the filter (102) and bracket (132) when inserted therein. Transmission lines (156 and 157) are disposed on tabs (158 and 159) and are reflow soldered to the corresponding electrodes (106 and 107) of the filter. The bracket (132) includes two tabs (134) which are reflow soldered to grounded portions of the circuitry on the top side of the printed circuit board (152).
