An automated driving system includes perception, intervention, and vehicle control modules. The perception module detects an upcoming situation to be experienced by a vehicle. The intervention module: determines that a low confidence level exists for a driving decision to be made for the upcoming situation; enables intervention of an autonomous driving mode and indicate information pertaining to the upcoming situation to a driver of the vehicle via an interface; based on the upcoming situation, requests assistance from the driver by (i) indicating available options for the situation via the interface, or (ii) requesting information from the driver to aid in making the driving decision; and determine whether an input has been received from the driver via the interface indicating (i) a selected one of the available options, or (ii) the requested information. The vehicle control module autonomously drives the vehicle based on whether the input has been received.

Driver-assisted automated driving system utilizing driver as a sensor to minimize automated driving disengagement

A method for perception-sharing between similarly-situated vehicles that are traveling on a portion of a roadway that is equipped with an intelligent vehicle highway system is described, and includes executing, in a multi-access edge computing cluster in communication with a roadside unit disposed to monitor a roadway, an application-layer routine. The application-layer routine includes collecting real-time data associated with a plurality of objects from each of the similarly-situated vehicles, predicting motion of each of the plurality of objects based upon the real-time data, object-matching the motion of each of the plurality of objects, and executing fusion of the plurality of objects based upon the object-matching of the motion of each of the plurality of objects. Locations of the similarly-situated vehicles traveling on the roadway are identified based upon the fusion of the plurality of objects. The locations are communicated to one of the similarly-situated vehicles.

Method and apparatus for perception-sharing between vehicles

A latency masking system for use in an autonomous vehicle (AV) system includes a sensors module providing sensor data from a plurality of sensors. The sensor data includes image frames provided by a vehicle camera and vehicle motion data. A wireless transceiver transmits the sensor data to a remote server associated with a network infrastructure and receives remote state information derived from the sensor data. An on-board function module receives the sensor data from the sensors module and generates local state information. A state fusion and prediction module receives the remote station information and the local state information and updates the local state information with the remote state information. The state fusion and prediction module uses checkpoints in a state history data structure to update the local state information with the remote state information.

Latency masking in an autonomous vehicle using edge network computing resources

An authentication system for V2X communication systems includes a first node having a V2X communication module with a processor, a memory, and input/output ports communicating a request to join and periodically communicating a first data packet to the V2X communication system. The authentication system having a private blockchain including a plurality of participant nodes within a predefined optimized area of one another, the blockchain receiving and validating the request to join the V2X communication system, and upon successfully validating the request to join the V2X communication system, periodically sending a second data packet from the plurality of participant nodes to the first node. The input/output ports receiving the second data packet, the processor executing a first control logic stored in the memory to extract the second data packet and a second control logic selectively generating a notification based on the contents of the second data packet.

Blockchain enhanced V2X communication system and method

A vehicle is described, and includes a telematics device, a GPS tracking device, and a multi-position driver's seat including a seat position actuator that is operatively connected to a seat controller and disposed to control a position setting thereof. A control system and method for the vehicle is described and includes receiving an alert of an impending traffic event, and determining a desired activation command for the seat position actuator based upon the impending traffic event. The seat controller controls the seat position actuator responsive to the desired activation command.

Method and apparatus for controlling a vehicle seat
