A sealant-filled enclosure assembly for environmentally protecting a connection between cables includes a housing and a mass of sealant. The housing is selectively configurable between an open position to receive the connection and a closed position wherein the housing defines an enclosure cavity to contain the connection. The housing includes at least one sealant cavity and a port control system. The port control system includes a gate member that is selectively deflectable from a closed position, wherein the gate member blocks a cable port, to an open position, wherein the cable port is open to permit a cable to extend into the enclosure cavity through the cable port. The gate member is rigid or semi-rigid. The mass of sealant is disposed in the at least one sealant cavity.

Sealant-filled enclosures and methods for environmentally protecting a connection

A sealant-filled enclosure for environmentally sealing a connection includes a first cover member and a second cover member. The first cover member defines a first cavity having a first bottom. The second cover member is pivotally connected to the first cover member for movement between an open position and a closed position. The second cover member defines a second cavity having a second bottom. A first sealant is positioned in the first cavity and extends up to a first level relative to the first bottom without a connection disposed in the first cavity. A second sealant is positioned in the second cavity and extends up to a second level relative to the second bottom without a connection disposed in the second cavity. The first and second levels together exceed a height from the first bottom to the second bottom in the closed position. The first and second sealants may be gels.

A sealant-filled enclosure assembly for environmentally protecting a connection includes a housing, a mass of sealant and a sealant valve mechanism. The housing includes a main cavity to receive the connection. The mass of sealant is disposed in the main cavity. The sealant valve mechanism includes an overflow chamber and a gate member between the main cavity and the overflow chamber. The gate member is selectively positionable in each of a closed position, wherein the gate member substantially prevents displacement of the sealant from the main cavity to the overflow chamber, and an open position, wherein the gate member permits displacement of the sealant from the main cavity to the overflow chamber.

An enclosed connection system for connecting first and second elongate electrical conductors includes a transverse wedge connector and an enclosure. The transverse wedge connector includes an electrically conductive first connector member, an electrically conductive second connector member, and a clamping mechanism. The first connector member includes: a first body having inner and outer opposed ends; a first hook portion on the outer end of the first body, the first hook portion defining a first channel to receive the first conductor; and a first abutment portion on the inner end of the first body. The second connector member includes: a second body having inner and outer opposed ends; a second hook portion on the outer end of the second body, the second hook portion defining a second channel to receive the second conductor; and a second abutment portion on the inner end of the second body. The clamping mechanism is selectively operable to displace the first and second connector members relative to one another from an open position to a clamping position to clamp the first conductor in the first channel and between the first hook portion and the second abutment portion and to clamp the second conductor in the second channel and between the second hook portion and the first abutment portion to thereby form a connection. The enclosure is configured to receive and cover the connection and to protect the transverse wedge connector.

A connection protector kit for use with an electrical stub connection assembly, the stub connection assembly including first and second conductors forming a connection and defining a crotch therebetween, includes an insert assembly. The insert assembly includes an insert member and a sealant pad mounted on the insert member. The insert assembly is adapted to fit within the crotch of the stub connection assembly. The kit may further include a cap defining a cavity and an opening communicating with the cavity, wherein the cavity and the opening are adapted to receive the stub connection assembly and the insert assembly is adapted to fit within the crotch of the stub connection assembly when the stub connection assembly is mounted in the cavity.

Electrical connection protector kits, insert assemblies and methods for using the same

A connection protector kit for use with an electrical stub connection includes a flexible cap having first and second opposed ends and an interior wall defining a cavity. The first end is closed and an opening is formed in the second end and communicates with the cavity. A gel is disposed in the cavity. The cavity and the gel are adapted to receive the stub connection. Retaining means may be provided to retain the cap on the connection.

Electrical connection protector kit and method for using the same

A connection protector kit for use with a plurality of electrical stub connections includes a cap defining an opening and having an interior, wall defining a cavity. The cavity communicates with the opening. A separator insert defines an insert axis and includes a plurality of holding walls. Each of the holding walls is adapted to hold a respective one of the stub connections. A plurality of axially extending separator walls are interposed between adjacent ones of the holding walls. The cavity is adapted to receive the separator insert and the stub connections.
