Provided is an electrically surface-controlled subsurface safety valve (ESCSSV). The ESCSSV, in one example, includes an outer housing comprising a central bore extending axially through the housing that is configured to convey production fluids there through. The ESCSSV, in this embodiment, further includes a valve closure mechanism disposed proximate a downhole end of the central bore, and a bore flow management actuator disposed in the central bore and configured to move between a closed state and a flow state to engage or disengage the valve closure mechanism to determine a flow condition of the production fluids through the central bore. The ESCSSV, in this embodiment, additionally includes an electric valve assembly fluidically coupled to the bore flow management actuator and configured to select between a section pressure or the annulus pressure to control the bore flow management actuator and determine the flow condition of production fluids through the central bore.

A gas separation and injection system includes a lower separator that receives and separates a production stream into higher and lower density streams, a turbine-compressor including a turbine that receives the lower density stream to rotate a shaft that drives a compressor and subsequently recombines the lower and higher density streams into a recombined production stream. An upper separator receives the recombined production stream and includes a gas inlet tube that conveys a gas stream to the compressor to produce a compressed gas stream. A shuttle valve assembly axially interposes the upper separator and the turbine-compressor and includes a mandrel assembly received within a body and having the gas inlet tube extending within the mandrel assembly, a valve seat secured to the gas inlet tube, a piston movably arranged within the inner annulus between closed and open positions, and a shuttle valve operatively coupled to the piston.

A flapper valve assembly including a tubular forming an interior passageway; a valve seat forming a portion of the interior passageway; a flapper plate that is pivotably mounted to the tubular at a pivot point such that the flapper plate is pivotable between a valve closed and a valve open position; and a spring engaging the flapper plate such that the flapper plate is biased towards the valve closed position; wherein, when the flapper plate is in the valve open position, the spring engages a top of the flapper plate at a first distance from the pivot point; wherein, when the flapper plate is in the valve closed position, the spring engages the top of the flapper plate at a second distance from the pivot point; and wherein the second distance is greater than the first distance.

A safety valve may include: an outer housing comprising a central bore extending axially through the outer housing; a flow tube including: a translating sleeve; and a flow tube main body disposed within the translating sleeve, wherein the flow tube main body has an upper end and a lower end; a piston operable to transmit a force to the translating sleeve; a flapper valve disposed on a distal end of the outer housing; and an electromagnet assembly operable to maintain the safety valve in an open state.

A flapper valve assembly that includes a tubular forming an interior passageway and comprising an internal shoulder; a valve seat forming a portion of the interior passageway and spaced from the internal shoulder to form a flapper chamber; a flapper plate that is pivotably mounted to the tubular at a pivot point and positioned within the flapper chamber; wherein the flapper plate is pivotable within the flapper chamber between a valve closed and valve open position; and a first spring extending within the flapper chamber and engaging the flapper plate such that the flapper plate is biased towards the valve closed position; wherein the first spring comprises spaced right and left arms that are in contact with the flapper plate; and wherein, when the flapper plate is in the valve closed position, each of the right and left arms extends away from the flapper plate and towards the internal shoulder.

A subsurface safety valve for controlling fluid flow in a well conduit incorporating a pressure equalizing feature. The safety valve includes a body member having a longitudinal bore, a valve actuator having axial movement within the longitudinal bore and a valve that restricts flow through the longitudinal bore. An equalization fluid flow passageway provides a fluid path between the longitudinal bore above the valve and the longitudinal bore below the valve. An equalizing device is located within the equalization fluid flow passageway and configured to resist sand and debris effects on its operation, the equalizing device regulating flow through the equalization fluid flow passageway and operated by the valve actuator prior to opening the valve.

An apparatus includes a cylindrical housing having a hinge, a flapper attached to the hinge, and a slidable element is within the cylindrical housing, wherein the flapper can rotate from a first flapper position to a second flapper position. The slidable element is slidable from a first position to a second position and engages with the flapper at the first position to prevent the flapper from moving to the second flapper position. The flapper is movable to the second flapper position when the slidable element is disengaged from the flapper. The apparatus also includes a latching mechanism attached to the slidable element movable from a first latching mechanism position to a second latching mechanism position. The slidable element is at the first position when the latching mechanism is at the first latching mechanism position and at the second position when the latching mechanism is at the second latching mechanism position.

Insert safely valve

Wellbore systems containing a hydraulically regulated primary safety valve may have their hydraulic regulation transferred to an insert safety valve disposed in a nipple. Transfer of the hydraulic regulation may take place mechanically, such as through axial displacement of a sliding sleeve or by replacement of a hydraulic spool. Wellbore systems configured for axial displacement of a switching mechanism may comprise: a tubing string comprising a nipple and a primary safety valve, the primary safety valve being disposed in the tubing string above or below the nipple; a control line and a balance line in hydraulic communication with the primary safety valve and in latent hydraulic communication with an internal flow pathway within the nipple; and a switching mechanism that is axially displaceable to establish hydraulic communication between an insert safety valve positioned in a bore of the nipple and both the control line and the balance line.

Mechanisms for transferring hydraulic regulation from a primary safety valve to a secondary safety valve

Embodiments of an equalizing device for use with a safety valve and a safety valve are provided herein. In one embodiment, the equalizing device includes at least a tubular having a central bore extending axially there through, the tubular having a ball seat. The equalizing device may further include a ball positioned proximate the ball seat, the ball configured to move from a first position engaged with the ball seat to a second position disengaged from the ball seat to equalize pressure across the safety valve, and an arced ring positioned radially outside the ball, the arced ring configured to keep the ball engaged with the ball seat when in the first position and maintain the ball radially outside the ball seat when in the second position.

Equalizing device

A well system includes a tubing string and a subsurface safety valve interconnected with the tubing string and including a housing that defines a central flow passageway and includes a flapper pivotable within the central flow passageway between closed and open positions. A flow tube is positioned within the central flow passageway and engageable with the flapper to move the flapper to the open position. An actuation piston is operatively coupled to the flow tube, a balance piston is operatively coupled to the flow tube, and a lock-open piston is engageable with an actuator sleeve operatively coupled to the flow tube. A lock-open tool is positionable within the central flow passageway to convey hydraulic pressure into a lock-open piston bore and thereby actuate the lock-open piston to an actuated position that moves the flow tube and permanently locks the flapper in the open position.

A selective service tool has a key prop mandrel that is slidably coupled to and extends over a cage mandrel. The lower end of the key prop mandrel has key props that extend from its lower end. A key has first and second opposing sections located about an outer perimeter and adjacent an upper end of the locator mandrel, wherein the key props are slidable with respect to the key and are positionable between the first section and the outer perimeter of the locator mandrel and the second section and the outer perimeter of the locator mandrel, respectively, when the key is in a deployed position.

A rotary actuator operates an inflow control device in a tubing string. The rotary actuator includes a stationary member, a drive member, and a locator device, where the locator device anchors the rotary actuator at a predetermined location in a tubing string. The drive member rotates relative to the stationary member, and operates the inflow control device. A method of actuating an inflow control device with a rotary actuator, the method comprising: conveying the rotary actuator to a predetermined location in the tubing string, engaging the engagement members with a profile, thereby preventing further movement of the rotary actuator into the tubing string, and rotating the drive member relative to the stationary member, thereby actuating the inflow control device.

A flapper and seat assembly, and systems and methods utilizing such assembly, are provided. The flapper and seat assembly includes a tubular metallic seat having a bore therethrough. The tubular metallic seat is one solid unit. The flapper and seat assembly further includes a hinge coupled to the tubular metallic seat and a flapper. The flapper is pivotally mounted to the hinge such that it is rotatable between an open position and a closed position. The flapper and seat assembly also includes a secondary sealing element located between the flapper and the tubular metallic seat. The secondary sealing element is one of an undulating or curved lip seal. The flapper and seat assembly further includes a seal that is formed between a sealing surface of the flapper and a sealing surface of the tubular metallic seat. The seal comprises an angle measured from a plane perpendicular to the centerline of the flapper and seat assembly.

An injection valve assembly for use in a well, where pressurized gas or fluid from uphole in the well displaces a perforated valve head from a valve seat, allows for fluid flow of the pressurized gas or fluid into the valve head and further downhole in the well toward an electric submersible pump. A compression spring is coiled around a valve stem connected to the valve head, pushing the valve stem and valve head in an uphole direction opposite to the force from pressurized gas or fluid. The compression spring is in a chamber filled with hydraulic fluid, where the hydraulic fluid can pass through a dampening system assembly and a flow restrictor assembly, thereby regulating the speed at which the valve stem and valve head can move relative to the valve seat.
