An electric motor includes: a housing having a first rotor bearing and a stator support surface; a cantilever stator that includes a lamination stack, a first side of the lamination stack abutting the stator support surface and a second side of the lamination stack abutting a stator endbell that has a second rotor bearing, wherein the cantilever stator is held by way of tie rods attaching the stator endbell to the housing; and a rotor in the cantilever stator, the rotor held by the first and second rotor bearings.

An electric vehicle includes an energy storage system, an integrated drive system assembly having a gearbox, a power inverter, and an electric motor, wherein the gearbox, the electric motor and the power inverter are assembled into a single unit with a multi-piece housing. The electric vehicle may also include two half shafts for respective wheels of the electric vehicle. The gearbox, the electric motor and the power inverter may be oriented such that the gearbox extends along a center line of the electric vehicle and the electric motor and the power inverter extend from the gearbox in opposite directions. The electric vehicle may also include a mutual thermal management system coupled to the integrated drive system assembly and having at least one liquid coolant loop that is thermally coupled to the electric motor, the power inverter, the gearbox, a cooling system, a refrigeration system, and an HVAC system.

Integrated electric motor assembly

An integrated drive system assembly is provided that combines an electric motor, a power inverter assembly and a gearbox into a single, multi-piece enclosure. Combining these components into a single enclosure reduces weight, reduces drive system complexity, reduces system volume, simplifies assembly integration into an electric vehicle, reduces manufacturing cost, allows the flexible and lengthy electrical cables between the power inverter and the electric motor to be replaced with short, low loss, rigid bus bars, and simplifies component cooling by allowing the use of a common thermal management system. The common thermal management system includes a liquid coolant loop that is thermally coupled to the electric motor, the power inverter assembly and the gearbox.

Thermal management system for use with an integrated motor assembly

An improved motor mount adjustably tensions the chain in a chain and sprocket driven vehicle. The vehicle has a frame, at least one driven wheel rotating from a wheel rotation point on the frame, a driven sprocket driving the driven wheel. A motor is mounted to the frame and has a driving sprocket at a motor sprocket rotation point on the motor. The driving sprocket is disposed in a plane including the driven sprocket, and powers a chain. An improved mount for mounting the motor from the frame relative to the driven sprocket includes a motor mount for fastening to the engine for disposing the driving sprocket from the engine overlying the driven sprocket powering the driven wheel. A motor mount pivot is provided on the motor mount for pivoting the driving sprocket along the plane including the chain and driven sprocket. A keeper slot is configured within the motor mount, the keeper slot being coaxial about the pivot to enable a keeper to slide relative to the keeper slot during pivot of the motor mount.

Mount for chain driven sprocket and chain powered scooter

A motor powered scooter for supporting a standing rider has an improved torsion acting shock absorbing mount for the cantilevered shock absorbing support of at least one of the scooter wheels from the frame. At least one torsion acting shock absorber is utilized. In a preferred embodiment, the torsion acting shock absorber includes a square sectioned metal tube, a correspondingly square sectioned metal shaft, and confined compressible rubber rods acting there between. The torsion acting shock absorber is attached at right angles to the main structural tube and protrudes at an end to one side of the main structural tube. A cantilevered wheel support is mounted offset from the main structural tube at the end of the shock absorber remote from the main structural tube. A shock absorbing suspension is disclosed for both the front steered wheel and the rear driven wheel.
