A batch-type particulate treating apparatus () includes an upright bin or hopper () equipped with a central, rotatable lifting augur () having a bored shaft () and helical flighting (). Coating liquid passes through the bore () of shaft (), and is delivered through ejectors () mounted on the augur flighting (). A pneumatic assembly () serves to direct pressurized air upwardly through a clearance () between the augur base and the adjacent inner surfaces of hopper (). In operation, liquid coating material is ejected into the particulates during rotation of the augur () and operation of the pneumatic assembly (), in order to uniformly and efficiently coat the particulates. The apparatus () is particularly designed for treating of seeds.

Batch seed coating apparatus

An improved seed metering wheel assembly is provided to deliver a substantially constant flow of seed to a downstream treating device or the like, without any substantial surging of seeds. The seed metering wheel assembly includes an axially rotatable metering wheel having a plurality of strategically sized and arranged seed metering openings therethrough, arranged in circular arrays of differently sized metering openings. In another embodiment, the seed metering wheel includes a central hub section and an outermost rib, with a series of ribs between the hub section and rim, which lie along respective non-diameter chords. Incoming seed is delivered from a seed hopper outlet by gravitation to the metering wheel, which preferably provides a substantially constant open area while preventing wholly unobstructed flow of seeds.

Seed metering wheel assembly

A tillage coulter unit () adapted for use with a farm implement () permits high speed tillage operations (e.g., field fertilization using liquid fertilizer such as ammonia, or seeding) without undue soil disruption or fertilizer vaporization. The coulter unit () includes an upright, rotatable coulter blade () with a gauge assembly () operable to limit the depth of the coulter blade into soil and to minimize soil disruption. The gauge assembly () preferably includes a pair of elongated, shiftable belt or chain loops () positioned in straddling relationship and astride the blade (). The loops () present lower runs () which substantially contact the soil as the unit () traverses a field.

Coulter unit for high speed tillage applications

A bulk seed handling system () is provided to facilitate seed transfer from a distributor to a farm and then to a planter or the like. The handling system () includes one or more upright bin assemblies () adapted to be moved in a filled condition, and a trailer () designed to move the bin assembly () and unload seed therefrom. The bin assembly () includes a seed bin () having a lower unload opening () and supported by a frame assembly () including telescopic legs () shiftable between a retractable travel position and an extended bin support position. The trailer () includes a lift frame () operable to engage and elevate the bin assembly () for travel with the legs () thereof in a retracted position, and a seed-conveying arrangement including an intermediate conveyor () and a delivery conveyor (). At an unloading site, the intermediate conveyor () is shifted to an unloading position in communication with the bin unload opening () and the delivery conveyor () in order to transfer seed from the bin.

Bulk seed handling system

Coulter unit for high speed fertilizer application

A seed metering gate assembly () is provided for use with an upright seed bin () having a shiftable primary gate (), wherein the gate assembly () provides an additional seed flow control function allowing more accurate dispensing of seed from the bin (). The gate assembly () includes a seed hopper () equipped with a fore and aft-shiftable metering gate () movable between a closed position and an open position presenting a seed output passageway (). Apparatus () is operably coupled with the gate member () in order to determine the travel of metering gate member between the fully closed position and a plurality of open positions presenting respective, differently sized passageways (). The apparatus () preferably includes a rod () having a series of through openings () and coupled with the gate member (), with a shiftable, motion-limiting collar () mounted on the rod () and securable at any of the openings () by a clip (). The opening movement of the rod () is limited by engagement between the collar () and a bracket () affixed to hopper ().

Seed metering gate assembly

A low-profile particulate handling assembly is provided for use in conjunction with a downstream treating device, such as a seed treater unit. The assembly includes a plurality of juxtaposed particulate bins and a surmounting turret assembly designed to successively deliver particulates to the bins. The particulates within the bins are delivered to the downstream treating device through respective lower outlets each equipped with an adjustable slide gate assembly and a lower, multiple-chute assembly. Preferably, each bin has a top wall which in plan configuration approximates a sector of a circle, planar sidewalls, and downwardly tapered, arcuate sidewall structure leading to the lower outlet; in this fashion, the bins can be grouped with the sidewalls in close adjacency, and with the outlets located to feed into a single inlet of the downstream treating device.
