A method, apparatus and program product are provided that utilize wrap profiles that specify controlled wrap cycle interruptions to handle specialized load requirements for loads to be wrapped by a stretch wrapping machine. Also provided is a method of creating wrap profiles, and a plurality of wrap profiles are stored in a database.

A roll product is wrapped with a sheet of stretch wrap packaging material dispensed from a stretch wrap dispenser. A portion of the sheet is positioned between a clamp and the stretch wrap dispenser so that the portion of the sheet is across a load path between the load and a roller for rotating the load. The load is transported along the load path and placed in driving contact with the roller. The load is rotated by driving the load with a roller. The clamp is moved from a first location to a second location where the sheet is wrapped around the load and secured in place by another portion of the sheet.

Stretch wrapping of roll products

A stretch wrap packaging machine includes a support frame and a rotatable frame rotatably mounted on the support frame. A dispenser is mounted on the rotatable frame to follow an orbital path. The dispenser has a web tensioning system which is selectably operable in a plurality of states. At least one actuation ring is moveably mounted on the support frame for cooperation with the tensioning system and selectively rendering the tensioning system operable in each of the plurality of states of operation throughout the orbital path. An activator moves the actuation ring to cooperate with the tensioning system. The tensioning system may include prestretch rollers connected by an engageable clutch. The tensioning system may also include at least one power assisted roller which is connected by a clutch to a power source.
