The invention described is a thermoplastic vulcanizate comprising dynamically-cured rubber, a functionalized thermoplastic polymer, and a functionalized hydrocarbon resin, which thermoplastic vulcanizate can be advantageously adhered to a polar substrate, for example by overmolding. In one or more embodiments of the present invention an article of commerce comprising: a) a polar substrate, and the b) a thermoplastic vulcanizate comprised of dynamically-cured rubber, a functionalized thermoplastic polymer, and a functionalized hydrocarbon resin; wherein said thermoplastic vulcanizate is adhered to the polar substrate is provided.

Thermoplastic vulcanizate adhesive compositions

A thermoplastic vulcanizate comprising (i) a dynamically-cured rubber, and (ii) a thermoplastic polymer component, where the thermoplastic polymer component includes (a) a propylene-&#x3b1;-olefin thermoplastic copolymer characterized by including at least 5% by weight up to 35% by weight units deriving from &#x3b1;-olefins, and having a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, of less than 80 J/g, (b) and a functionalized thermoplastic polymer.

Thermoplastic vulcanizates with advantageous adhesion to polar substrates

This document relates to adhesive compositions comprising 1) a thermoplastic vulcanizate of thermoplastic polyurethane and at least partially crosslinked rubber, and 2) an adhesion modifying amount of styrenic block copolymer. These compositions are especially useful in adhering to polar engineering thermoplastics and so find utility in laminates and composite articles comprising at least one polar engineering substrate and the described adhesive compositions.

Thermoplastic elastomers having improved adhesive properties

A thermoplastic elastomer having adhesion to steels, where the thermoplastic elastomer includes a dynamically crosslinked rubber, from more than 2.0 to 10 parts of a metal oxide or salt, and from 10 to 200 parts by weight of a functionalized polyolefin having pendant polar functional groups, where the polar functional groups are present at a level of 0.5 to 3.5 mole percent of the total repeating units of said functionalized polyolefin and the functionalized polyolefin is derived from polymerizing at least one monoolefin to form a semicrystalline polymer or is derived from hydrogenating the polydiene blocks of a block copolymer, and where the parts by weight are based on 100 parts by weight of crosslinked rubber.

Use of metal oxides and salts to enhance adhesion to steels

A combination of a low flexural modulus and low crystallinity polyolefin and a functionalized polyolefin were found to result in an olefin composition with excellent adhesion to metals and polar polymers (e.g. polyesters, polyamides, etc) especially fibers therefrom. When these two polyolefins were added to a thermoplastic vulcanizate (e.g. used to partially or fully replace the semicrystalline polyolefin of a thermoplastic vulcanizate), the thermoplastic vulcanizate was found to have the necessary adhesion to form fiber reinforced thermoplastic vulcanizate.
