Shear member designs in various formats are presented with additional features for segment retention and subsequent removal after a shearing event and removal of the tool from a subterranean location. In some embodiments a portion of the shear member is retained by threads so that the segment stays in the part and then can be removed at the surface with putting a notch in the segment and removing it with a screwdriver. In another embodiment a retaining pin in an intersecting bore can hold onto a sheared remnant of the shear pin by pushing the remnant laterally in the bore that it is mounted. Another design for a shear ring uses a split design with the right angle portion of the ring that gets sheared appearing in segments so that the ring can be rapidly snapped into a groove at its outer periphery followed by a retaining cap facilitating removal.

A one-way flowable anchoring system includes a plurality of same anchors that are sealedly fixedly engagable within a structure and each of the plurality of same anchors has a flow bore longitudinally therethrough with a first seat and a second seat on opposing ends thereof The system also has a plug positionable within the structure between two of the plurality of same anchors positioned longitudinally adjacent one another. The plug is sealedly engagable to substantially block flow through the flow bore of a first of the plurality of same anchors when sealingly engaged with the first seat thereof and the plug is seatingly engagable to allow flow around the plug and into the flow bore of the second of the plurality of same anchors through an area at least equal to that of the flow bore when the plug is seated at the second seat thereof

One-way flowable anchoring system and method of treating and producing a well

An apparatus and method for the completion of wells through a production tube includes a tool body having cement flow ports and pressure displaced port closure elements. A perforated mandrel tube concentrically aligned within the production tube is secured to said tool body at its upper end. Concentrically within the mandrel tube is a dart transport tube. The dart transport tube is releasably secured to the tool body by a set of locking dogs. A first dart plug is placed in the production tubing bore at the well surface to be pumped or allowed to gravitate onto a closure seat in the lower end of the of the transport tube. This seat closure allows the production tubing to be pressurized for setting well annulus packers and opening of a cement port closure sleeve. After the production tube has been set by cement pumped down the production tubing bore and through the cement flow port, a second dart plug is positioned atop the cement column in the production tube. A pumped column of water or other well working fluid sweeps most of the production tube cement column into the well annulus and lower end of the transport tube. The second dart plug lands against an upper bore seat in the transport tube to enable another pressure increase in the production tube fluid column. This next pressure increase shifts a sleeve piston that closes the cement flow ports and releases the transport tube locking dogs. With the locking dogs released, the transport tube falls to the end of the perforated mandrel and opens the mandrel perforations to formation fluid flow from the screens into the production tube bore. Residual cement remaining in the tube bore is all displaced into the transport tube and removed from the production flow path without drilling.

Well completion method and apparatus

A method for locating placement of a guide stock in a multilateral well wherein the guide stock is properly aligned with the lateral borehole. The method employs an impression packer with a scribed reference line to provide information at the surface regarding the lateral borehole's exact location and orientation with respect to the originally installed whipstock packer. This information is then employed to make up a guide stock and orientation sub to properly orient the diverter face of the guide stock with the lateral borehole. There are tool embodiments for inflating the impression packer to a preset relatively low internal pressure. In one embodiment, the inflation fluid is carried downhole in the tool and is released to the packer on set down pressure, the fluid being drawn back out of the packer upon pick up. In another embodiment, the impression packer is outfitted with an automatically closing valve. The valve can be mechanically electromechanically or electrically activated and may work in combination with a controller.

Method for locating placement of a guide stock in a multilateral well

An apparatus for setting and retrieving a bridge plug of the type which may be passed through a small diameter tubing, and may be sealed against a relatively large diameter casing by pressured fluid to inflate an elastomeric packing element carried by the bridge plug. The running tool is engagable with a valve housing by a J-slot connection and an axially shiftable, pressure balanced valve plug cooperates with the valve housing to open or close the fluid passageway therethrough extending to the inflatable elastomeric packing element. Upward movement of the running tool followed by left hand rotation effects the closing movement of the valve plug and the disengagement of the running tool. Downward movement of the running tool, while engaged with the valve housing, effects an opening of the plug valve.
