Method of selecting an optimum formation stabilization treatment for subterranean formations is described. The methods include obtaining formation material, adding a test fluid to the formation material to form a first mixture, adding the test fluid to the formation material to form a second mixture, agitating the first and second mixtures, measuring capillary suction time of the first mixture, and measuring turbidity of the second mixture.

A method of treating a subterranean formation includes introducing a viscosified treatment fluid into a subterranean formation, the treatment fluid including an aqueous fluid, a gelling agent, and a crosslinker including a copolymer with an interpenetrating monomer and organic bound metal ions. Methods involving the sequential application of surfactants to improve fluid recovery and control fluid loss in conjunction with subterranean fracturing treatments are provided. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: introducing a first surfactant into a portion of a subterranean formation; allowing the first surfactant to increase the oil-wettability of at least a portion of a fracture face in the portion of the subterranean formation; ceasing the introduction of the first surfactant into the portion of the subterranean formation; introducing a second surfactant into the portion of the subterranean formation; and allowing the second surfactant to increase the water-wettability of the portion of the fracture face in the portion of the subterranean formation.

Sequential surfactant treatments for enhancing fracturing fluid recovery

Fracturing methods include introducing a relatively high concentration of a surfactant in an initial portion of one or more fluids used in a fracturing treatment and then cutting or ramping back to a relatively low concentration of the surfactant in the remaining fluid used in the treatment. By using such a method, the volume of surfactant to provide superior treatment can be reduced significantly from the normal recommendations, leading to a high cost savings while still obtaining the desired effect upon cleanup.

Latent curing agent compatible with low pH frac fluids

Dual-purpose additives that may be used as viscosifying agents and surface active agents in fluids, subterranean treatments and oilfield operations are provided. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising a base fluid and a polymeric dual-purpose additive comprising a base polymer comprising a plurality of monomer units, and one or more hydrophobic groups bonded to at least one of the monomer units; introducing the treatment fluid into at least a portion of a subterranean formation; and depolymerizing at least a portion of the dual-purpose additive to form one or more surface active fragments, each of the surface active fragments comprising one or more of the hydrophobic groups bonded to one or more of the monomer units.

Dual-purpose viscosifier and surface active additives and methods of use

Embodiments described herein include a method comprising: providing a treatment fluid comprising an aqueous base fluid, a viscosifier-scale inhibitor agent, and a breaker, wherein the viscosifier-scale inhibitor agent comprises a polysaccharide gelling agent grafted with a chelating moiety; introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation, wherein the polysaccharide gelling agent increases the viscosity of the treatment fluid and the chelating moiety remains inert; breaking treatment fluid with the breaker so as to reduce the viscosity of the treatment fluid and chemically release the chelating moiety from the polysaccharide gelling agent; and inhibiting scale within the subterranean formation using the chelating moiety.

Dual purpose viscosifier-scale inhibitors for use in subterranean formation operations

Viscosified treatment fluids that include polyol derivatized cellulose may be useful in subterranean operations. For example, a method may include introducing a viscosified treatment fluid into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, wherein the viscosified treatment fluid comprises an aqueous base fluid, borate ions, and a polyol derivatized cellulose, and wherein the polyol derivatized cellulose comprise a cellulosic backbone derivatized with pendants comprising (1) a terminal polyol and (2) at least one of an internal 1,2,3-triazole, an internal ester, and an internal amide.

Methods of treating a subterranean formation including providing a treatment fluid comprising a brine base fluid and an anionic carboxylated polysaccharide, wherein the brine base fluid comprises a concentration of salt in the range of from about 30,000 ppm to saturation and a pH in the range of from about 4 to about 8, and wherein the anionic carboxylated polysaccharide is present in the range of from about 0.05% to about 2% by weight of the treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into the subterranean formation.
