The present invention relates to nucleotide sequences encoding ent-kaurenoic acid 13-hydroxylase polypeptides and polypeptides having ent-kaurenoic acid 13-hydroxylase activity. The invention also relates to methods of producing steviol and steviol glycosides.

Compositions having ent-kaurenoic acid 13-hydroxylase activity and methods for producing same

A plant expressing a cytokine and an autoantigen is disclosed. An example of a cytokine is a contra-inflammatory cytokine, for example IL-4 and IL-10, and an example of autoantigen is GAD. A novel method for the production of transgenic proteins of interest suitable for oral administration is also disclosed. Further, non-food crop plants expressing one or more proteins of interest are disclosed, as is a method involving the preparation of a protein of interest suitable for oral administration within a non-food crop plant comprising, transforming the non-food crop plant with a suitable vector containing a gene of interest and appropriate regulatory regions to ensure expression of the gene of interest within the non-food crop plant, such that the non-food crop plant is characterized as being non-toxic, non-addictive, palatable, and requiring minimal or no processing prior to oral administration. An example of a non-food crop plant is low alkaloid tobacco. Proteins of interest may include pharmaceutically active proteins such as growth regulators, insulin, interferons, interleukins, growth hormone, erythropoietin, G-CSF, GM-CSF, hPG-CSF, M-CSF, Factor VIII, Factor IX, tPA, antibodies, antigens and combinations and/or derivatives thereof.

Plant bioreactors

This invention relates to Stevia plants characterized by exhibiting a high level of total glycosides, and a high ratio between rebaudioside A and stevioside. Preferably the Stevia plants comprise a level of total steviol glycoside of at least 14%, or of about 14.4% to about 18.8%, and the ratio of rebaudioside A:stevioside is of at least 9.1:1, or of about 9.3:1 to about 11.0:1. This invention also discloses a method for producing Stevia plants characterized in that the level of total steviol glycoside is at least of about 14%, and the ratio of rebaudioside A: stevioside is of at least about 9.1:1, comprising selecting at least two intermating genotypes of Stevia each comprising a ratio of rebaudioside A:stevioside of at least about 9:1:1, and a total steviol glycoside level of at least about 14%; allowing said at least two intermating genotypes to cross pollinate to produce a seed; collecting said seed; and growing said Stevia plant. Also disclosed are seeds and plants obtained from Stevia plants exhibiting high levels of total glycosides and high ratios between rebaudioside A to stevioside.
