An apparatus () and method for excising tissue () and closing a wound () that results from excision of the tissue () is provided. The apparatus () includes structure () defining an aperture () into which tissue () to be excised is exposed and a cutting member (). The apparatus () also includes an adhesive bandage () for closing the wound (). The adhesive bandage () is secured relative to a lower surface () of the structure () in a location for contacting skin () adjacent to the tissue () to be excised. The apparatus () further includes a device () that is actuatable for closing the wound () with the adhesive bandage () and actuators (and) for moving the cutting member () relative to the structure () for excising the tissue () exposed in the aperture () and for actuating the device ().

Apparatus and method for excising tissue and bandaging the resulting wound

A skin lesion exciser including a moving blade, wherein excision of a skin lesion placed in proximity to the blade is effected by movement of the blade against the skin, a moving engagement portion, wherein the blade and the engagement portion have coincident movement, and a skin-closure device having an open condition prior to excision of the skin lesion, and a closed condition in which the device holds the skin closed after excision of the skin lesion. The device is in engagement with the engagement portion during movement of the blade, and the device is moved from its open to its closed condition in response to movement of the engagement portion. The excision of the skin lesion and the closure of the skin are substantially simultaneous. The present invention also provides a method for excising a skin lesion including: positioning a skin lesion above a moving blade; slicing the lesion from the skin with the blade; and substantially simultaneously with excision of the lesion, closing the skin beneath the moving blade. The present invention also provides a skin-closure device which may be used in conjunction with an inventive exciser.

Skin lesion exciser and skin-closure device therefor

A device for excising tissue and closing a wound that results from excision of the tissue includes structure defining an aperture into which tissue to be excised is exposed. The device also includes a cutting member for excising the tissue, a closure member for closing the wound, and an actuatable drive member associated with the structure. The drive member is actuatable to move the cutting member relative to the aperture for excising the tissue that is exposed in the aperture and for closing the wound with the closure member.
