A universal lid system and methods for use with any of a selection of teapots for quick and sanitary beverage preparation. More specifically, the present invention is directed to a system and methods including a lid sized and shaped to facilitate the storage of a retention element such as a tea bag. The retention element may be held out of contact with the beverage by a retention element stabilizing component.

Apparatus and methods for the controlled preparation of a beverage from one or more beverage bags within a variety of containers and the quick and sanitary storage of the bag or bags once the beverage preparation has been completed. The apparatus may include a drinking aperture, an even retention structure profile, and a bag retention aperture that is openable such that at least a portion of the bag may be drawn within and thereby retained in a position elevated above the beverage so that the beverage can be consumed even with the apparatus in place on the container and the bag or bags retained within the apparatus. The apparatus also may include a depressed wall section sized and shaped such that, when a bag is secured by the bag retention aperture, the bag is prevented from blocking a drinking aperture even when the container is rotated for drinking.

Apparatus and methods for the individual controlled preparation of a beverage from one or more beverage bags within a variety of containers and the quick and sanitary storage of the bag or bags once the beverage preparation has been completed. Preferably, the beverage preparation and bag storage apparatus is sized and shaped to be seated on the lip of a container to cover the mouth of the container. The apparatus includes a full profile retention structure sized and shaped such that at least a portion of the beverage bag may be drawn within and thereby retained in a position elevated above the beverage so that the beverage can be sampled and consumed even with the apparatus in place on the container and the bag or bags retained within the apparatus.

One embodiment of such apparatus includes a rounded raised area having a patterned area, such as weakenings formed in or perforations or incisions cut through the flexible cover panel, that can be opened partially or completely to provide a string/tag securing aperture or completely to provide a bag retention aperture by the application of respectively increasing amounts of pressure at the patterned area.

A container cover having chamber for retaining a porous filter bag, such as a tea bag. The cover has an upwardly extending protrusion forming the retaining chamber. The protrusion has an aperture enabling passage of the drawstring of the tea bag. An opening closed by a removable lift tab is formed in the container cover for access to liquid contents of the container. The protrusion and opening are located opposite one another on the container cover. The user withdraws the tea bag from the liquid contents of the container into the retaining chamber by pulling the drawstring of the tea bag through the aperture. The aperture resiliently grasps the drawstring. The container cover and porous filter bag are used and discarded without causing direct handling of the porous filter bag.

An improved brewing pot is disclosed that allows the user to stop the brewing process at the point where the decoction is at the desired strength. In the preferred embodiment, the material from which a decoction is to be made is placed in a cylindrical chamber, boiling water is added, and then a circular screen carrying member, wherein the carried screen is exposed in pie shaped slots, is lowered into the chamber to approximately the level of the brewing liquid. When the brew has reached the desired strength, the screen carrying member is lowered into the liquid. The screen member is surrounded by a flexible gasket and the exposed portions of the screen itself are of sufficiently fine mesh so as to segregate the steeping material from the brewed or decanting area. The screen portions are then closed off, preventing fluid communication between the decanting chamber containing the finished brew, and the smaller area containing the brewed material, along with some amount of water. The closing off of the screen is preferably accomplished by an integral and rotatable overlay that corresponds in size to the exposed screen portions.
