A colored glass article includes from 40 mol % to 70 mol % SiO; from 8 mol % to 20 mol % AlO; from 1 mol % to 10 mol % BO; from 1 mol % to 20 mol % LiO; from 1 mol % to 15 mol % NaO; from 0 mol % to 8 mol % MgO; from 0 mol % to 5 mol % ZnO; and from 0.0005 mol % to 1 mol % Au. MgO+ZnO is from 0.1 mol % to 6 mol %.

Colored glass articles having improved mechanical durability

Glass stack configurations including a carrier plate, setter plates, and glass sheets for thermal treatment of the glass sheets to form glass ceramic articles are provided. The glass stacking configurations and components described herein are selected to improve thermal uniformity throughout a glass stack during ceramming processes while maintaining or even reducing the stresses in the resultant glass ceramic article. Accordingly, the glass ceramic articles made according to the various embodiments described herein exhibit improved optical qualities and less warp than glass ceramic articles made according to conventional processes. Various embodiments of carrier plates, setter plates, parting agent compositions, and methods of stacking glass sheets are described.

Setter plates and methods of ceramming glass articles using the same

A glass ceramic article including a lithium disilicate crystalline phase, a petalite crystalline phased, and a residual glass phase. The glass ceramic article has a warp (μm)<(3.65×10/μm×diagonal) where diagonal is a diagonal measurement of the glass ceramic article in μm, a stress of less than 30 nm of retardation per mm of glass ceramic article thickness, a haze (%)<0.0994t+0.12 where t is the thickness of the glass ceramic article in mm, and an optical transmission (%)>0.91×10of electromagnetic radiation wavelengths from 450 nm to 800 nm, where t is the thickness of the glass ceramic article in mm.

A colored glass article includes greater than or equal to 50 mol % and less than or equal to 80 mol % SiO; greater than or equal to 7 mol % and less than or equal to 25 mol % AlO; greater than or equal to 1 mol % and less than or equal to 15 mol % BO; greater than or equal to 5 mol % and less than or equal to 20 mol % LiO; greater than or equal to 0.5 mol % and less than or equal to 15 mol % NaO; greater than 0 mol % and less than or equal to 1 mol % KO; and greater than or equal to 1×10mol % and less than or equal to 1 mol % Au. RO—AlOis greater than or equal to −5 mol % and less than or equal to 7 mol %, RO being the sum of LiO, NaO, and KO.

A method for ceramming a glass article to a glass-ceramic includes placing a glass article into a heating apparatus, and heating the glass article to a first hold temperature at a first predetermined heating rate. The glass article is held at the first hold temperature for a first predetermined duration. The viscosity of the glass article is maintained within log viscosity &#xb1;1.0 poise during the first predetermined duration. The glass article is then heated from the first hold temperature to a second hold temperature at a second predetermined heating rate. The glass article is held at the second hold temperature for a second duration. A density of the glass article is monitored from the heating of the glass article from the first hold temperature through the second duration, and the second duration is ended when an absolute value of a density rate of change of the glass article is less than or equal to 0.10 (g/cm)/min.

Methods for ceramming glass with nucleation and growth density and viscosity changes

Coated glass articles for a glass-ceramic ceramming process including a parting agent coated on a surface of the glass article. The parting agent coating can comprise an aqueous dispersion comprising amorphous silicon dioxide agglomerate particles and a dispersant. The parting agent coating can be dried to forming a parting layer for glass articles in a glass stack for a ceramming process that transforms the glass articles into glass-ceramic articles.

Glass articles coated with silica-based parting agent and methods of ceramming the same

A lithium containing glass article is provided. In aspects, the lithium containing glass article includes an intensity coupling profile including a plurality of coupling resonances. Methods of ceramming glass articles having improved warp

RO&#x2014;AlOis greater than or equal to &#x2212;5 mol % and less than or equal to 7 mol %, RO being the sum of LiO, NaO, and KO.

A method of reworking lithium containing ion exchanged glass articles is provided. The method includes a reverse ion exchange process that returns the glass article to approximately the composition of the glass from which the glass article was produced, before being subjected to ion exchange. The reworked glass articles exhibit a KO concentration profile comprising a portion wherein a KO concentration increases to a local KO concentration maximum.

Glass-ceramic articles are manufactured by an ion exchange process that results in glass-based articles having improved stress profiles. A knee may be located at a depth of 3 microns or deeper. A compressive stress at a surface may be 200 MPa or more and at a knee may be 20 MPa or more. A non-sodium oxide may have a non-zero concentration that varies from the first surface to a depth and a depth of compression (DOC) may be located at 0.10&#xb7;t, or even at 0.17&#xb7;t or deeper. A two-step ion exchange (DIOX) includes, for example, a potassium bath in a first treatment to form a spike in a spike region of the stress profile, followed by a second treatment which includes, for example, a potassium and sodium mixed bath to maintain the spike and form a tail region of the stress profile. The glass-ceramic articles may thereby avoid developing a vitreous surface layer, which facilitates repeatable and reliable measurement of waveguide modes and determination of compressive stress in the surface (CS) and depth of the spike.

Glass-ceramic articles with improved stress profiles

A process for forming a textured 3-D glass-based substrate includes texturing a first surface of a glass-based substrate and shaping the glass-based substrate into a three-dimensional shape. The surface profile of the substrate is non-planar. In some embodiments, texturing the first surface of the glass-based substrate provides the first surface with an average roughness of 10 nm to 2000 nm.
