Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for preparing CSI. One apparatus includes a processor and a memory with instructions executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine a total number of non-zero coefficients associated with a CSI codebook over a set of transmission layers and encode an indication of the total number of non-zero coefficients by selecting a codeword from a plurality of candidate codewords in which the selected codeword identifies the total number of non-zero coefficients. The instructions are executable by the processor to prepare CSI based on the CSI codebook and to transmit the CSI to a base station unit, where the CSI codebook includes a plurality of precoding matrices, and where the CSI includes the selected codeword.

Preparing CSI using a set of zero amplitude parameters

One apparatus for providing high-resolution CSI feedback includes a processor and a radio transceiver. The processor computes sets of amplitude and phase parameters for one or more matrices corresponding to a CSI codebook. Here, each matrix corresponds to one transmission layer of a multiple-layer transmission, where each matrix is comprised of one or more column vectors. The radio transceiver sends indications of the sets of amplitude and phase parameters to one or more network entities is a mobile communication network.

One apparatus includes a processor and a transceiver configured to communicate with a base unit over a radio access network using at least one transmission layer and determining a total number of non-zero coefficients over a set of layers. The processor encodes the total number of non-zero coefficients by selecting a codeword from a plurality of candidate codewords in which the selected single codeword identifies the total number of non-zero coefficients to the base unit. The processor prepares CSI, where the CSI comprises the selected single codeword encoding the total number of non-zero coefficients and the transceiver transmits the CSI to the base unit.

A method and apparatus in a wireless communication device is provided. A reference signal is received from a network entity, and a default set of individual beams is defined, each of the beams having an associated direction. A compression matrix is determined, and an indication of the determined compression matrix is sent to the network entity. The compression matrix is applied to the default set of individual beams resulting in a new set of composite beams, where at least one of the composite beams includes a combination of multiple individual beams from the default set, and where the multiple individual beams included in the at least one of the composite beams each extend in a different direction. A set of beam weighting values is determined, and the determined set of beam weighting values is sent to the network entity.

Method and apparatus for using a determined compression matrix to form a set of composite beams

One apparatus includes a processor and a radio transceiver that receives a set of reference signals transmitted from transmission point. The processor selects a subset of beams from a plurality of orthogonal beams based on the received set of reference signals and computes sets of amplitude and phase parameters for one or more channel compression matrices. In some embodiments, each channel compression matrix corresponds to one transmission layer of a multiple-layer transmission and each channel compression matrix is comprised of one or more column vectors. The processor controls the radio transceiver to send indications of the sets of amplitude and phase parameters.

One apparatus includes a processor and a transceiver configured to communicate with a base unit over a RAN using spatial multiplexing, wherein multiple transmission layers are transmitted at a time, each transmission layer comprising multiple beams. Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for preparing a channel state information ('CSI') codeword. One apparatus includes a processor and a transceiver configured to communicatewith a transmit-receive point ('TRP') over a radio access network using spatial multiplexing, wherein multiple transmission layers are transmitted at a time, each transmission layer comprising multiple beams. The processor identifies a main beam for each of the multiple transmission layers and determines whether the main beams of each transmission layer are the same. The processor prepares a CSI codeword, wherein the CSI codeword comprises a first bit indicating whether the main beams of each transmission layer are the same, a first set of bits coding the main beams, and a second set of bits coding the remaining beams. The transceiver transmits the CSI codeword to the TRP.
