Delivery systems for expandable elements, such as stents or scaffolds having spikes, flails, or other protruding features for penetrating target tissue and/or delivering drugs within a human patient are described along with associated methods for using such systems. The delivery systems can be provided with a stent that is positioned over an inflatable balloon for expansion and delivery of the stent to a target delivery location. By positioning the stent over and about the inflatable balloon, the stent is ready to be expanded by the balloon immediately upon unsheathing with respect to the outer shaft. Additionally or alternatively, a stent can be positioned in an axially offset arrangement with respect to a balloon to reduce the need for space required by overlapping components.

Delivery systems for stents having protruding features

Delivery systems for expandable elements, such as stents or scaffolds having spikes, flails, or other protruding features for delivering drugs and/or penetrating target tissue within a human patient and associated methods for using such systems. The delivery systems can be configured to deliver and position expandable structures within a body lumen (e.g., vessel). In addition, these delivery systems can also be configured to deploy and expand the expandable structures in the body lumen. The delivery systems can further be configured to engage with the expanded structure and collapse the structure for removal from the body lumen. The delivery systems can be configured to deliver another expandable structure or the same expandable structure to another body lumen, or the same body lumen, in a single procedure or during a plurality of procedures.

A device for crossing a lesion in a tissue lumen includes a crossing wire configured to pass through a lumen of a catheter, the crossing wire including a loop at a distal end of the crossing wire. The loop can have a configuration that prevents a width of the loop from exceeding a width of the tissue lumen, and the loop having a pair of lateral opposing portions configured for alignment with a wall of the tissue lumen and a leading portion interconnecting the pair of lateral opposing portions, the leading portion being configured to interrogate the lesion. The loop has a length in an axial direction of the crossing wire extending from the leading portion to proximal ends of the pair of lateral opposing portions, the length being perpendicular to the width, and the length of the loop is at least twice the width of the loop.

A measurement device and method that allows for precise placement, as well as more accurate measurement of various body parts, including vessels, lesions, and/or lumens of vessels of various body parts. The measurement device comprises one or more measurement tapes having (i) a plurality of measurement marks for measuring a distance and/or a length of a vessel and (ii) a plurality of circular indicators for measuring a diameter of a lumen of the vessel.

A retrieval device can include inwardly facing protruding features that facilitate engagement and capture of a thrombus or other mass from a body lumen of a patient. The protruding features can deploy from a frame of the retrieval device to extend radially inwardly toward an opposing side of the frame. When deployed into a thrombus, the protruding features engage and urge the thrombus as the retrieval device moves to facilitate capture.

A peripheral vascular filter according to some aspects of the invention includes a filter body forming a cavity therein, the filter body having a proximal end and a distal end in a length-wise direction of the peripheral vascular filter, the filter body having an opening in the proximal end thereof; a spring system arranged proximal to the filter body and in mechanical connection with the filter body and with a filter wire, the spring system being stretchable along the length-wise direction; a plurality of retractor wires, each retractor wire having a distal end connected to the filter body, and a proximal end connected to spring system. In a deployed configuration, the spring system absorbs forces applied to the filter wire proximal to the filter body to prevent the peripheral vascular filter from becoming dislodged from a position in a peripheral vasculature.

A fluid mixing device includes inlet ports in fluid communication with respective source containers, an inlet check valve, a mixing container in fluid communication with the inlet check valve, a discharge port in fluid communication with a target container, and a discharge check valve in fluid communication with the mixing container and the discharge port. Responsive to a negative pressure at the mixing container, fluid is drawn from the respective source containers through the inlet ports and through the inlet check valve and into the mixing container, while the discharge check valve precludes drawing of fluid from the target container. Responsive to a positive pressure at the mixing container, fluid is expelled from the mixing container through the discharge check valve and into the target container, while the inlet check valve precludes discharge of fluid from the mixing container to the inlet ports and the source containers.

Expandable elements having drug-delivery features and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a drug-eluting stent includes a radially expandable cylindrical frame having a plurality of struts. The frame is transformable between a low-profile delivery state and an expanded deployed state. A plurality of drug-delivery features are carried by one of the struts and configured to deliver a drug to a treatment site within the patient or piercing through the tissue wall to break the constricting of the vessel wall inwardly. When the frame is in the expanded state within a body lumen of the patient, the drug-delivery features extend radially outwardly away from the strut and are configured to engage and, in some arrangements, pass through a wall of the body lumen.

A reentry apparatus has an outer catheter configured to accommodate a first reentry device and an inner catheter configured to fit within the outer catheter. The inner catheter has a series of expanding anchors extending from the outer surface of the inner catheter and a reentry channel configured to accommodate a second reentry device. A retaining wire extends along the upper surface of the expanding anchors. A reentry channel is located in the configured to accommodate a second reentry device.

A device for crossing a lesion in a tissue lumen includes a crossing wire configured to pass through a lumen of a catheter, the crossing wire including a loop at a distal end of the crossing wire, the loop having a configuration that prevents a width of the loop from exceeding a width of the tissue lumen, and the loop having a leading portion configured to interrogate the lesion.
